Just picked up one of these yesterday in a trade. Can't wait to start tweaking a bit. Ordered a set of D'Addario balanced tension .04-.130 for it. Think I will take the gloss finish off the back of the neck for starters.

Squier Vintage Modified Precision V: who's got one?

Mine is stock for the time being; with a little bit of overdrive it's got that dirty P sound I've grown to appreciate.

, as I was on the bubble about ordering one...I just ordered an Oly White from Sweetwater and will be here Monday! 
I thought I was going to have to go back to 4 strings in order to get a good sounding P bass. Which I've had a MF which I loved but sold in 2012 as I wanted to stay strictly 5 string. As soon as I receive the VM P5 I'll be swapping the rounds for TI's that I have that are only 2 months old with little playtime on them. Looks like I'll be asking for a membership in this club when it arrives.

Bought the same model from sweetwater when they were first released. Love it. Changed the strings and did a setup. Thats it. I don't play five string basses much but always like having one around and the Squier does it for me. Of the four basses I play regularly, they are all P bass variants. Two are squiers. I've never been happier with my basses.

Thanks! I can't wait to get my hands on her. I've had a couple Squier P bass 4 strings in 2012, a Matt Freeman and a standard MII P, loved the MF, but not played a 5 string P yet. The only Squier/Fender that has disappointed me was my first bass, a 2007 Squier Jazz IV. The truss rod wouldn't adjust the huge relief in the neck enough. Even took it to a shop to have adjusted. Strings were 1/2" above FB! Now looking back I realize there were a few more options but I was a rookie then. Borrowed a 58 relic reissue P bass from a buddy for a couple of months and that one I wanted to buy from him but he couldn't sell it. If this VM P V works out I'll probably buy another in CCR, remove the FB and install an Ebony lineless fretless FB. THAT I think would be sexy!
I'm strictly a 5r player. Thanks! Yeah, originally I put an order in with Sweetwater for the Sunburst but were back ordered until June. So I understood that to mean ALL Squier VM P bass Vs were BO until June. So yesterday, Friday,I shopped online for more resources and I was about to pull the trigger on one at MF when an email alert popped up saying a Oly white just arrived at SW. I immediately pulled the trigger on SW and was pleasantly surprised that I was able to buy it. Sorry
I prefer buying from Sweetwater as they have excellent customer service, closer to me and they include CANDY
with every order. I hope you'll find one very soon. Musicians Friend had one yesterday...
Look what came TODAY! Wow! That's what I call super fast delivery. 22 hours after my order was placed from Ft. Wayne, IN to Northern MI, Tip of the Mitt. Very impressive. I haven't plugged her in yet but the fit and finish is really tight, except after peeling off the PG protective plastic I noticed 5 bubbles in the top finish of the PG. Never seen this before on a PG. I contacted and sent pics to my Sweetwater rep to see if they'll exchange the PG. Anyone run into this? If they don't exchange it out I'm thinking of ordering a red Pearl PG.
Exactly. Freaked me out for a minute with my first one, until I realized that not only did the pick guard have a scratch and bubbles, but it was peeling at the edges!
Felt pretty foolish once I realized that it was just dual-layer scratch protection. Never seen that on any other brand.
Relax, icebox bass, there is a solid, shinier and much more attractive pick guard under that second layer of Saran Wrap...

My impressions of this bass after changing strings to GHS Precision Flats and playing for 3 hours...OH MY GOSH!!!
She's a keeper! The neck back is perfectly smooth, Maple FB is gorgeous, frets are dressed perfectly, only one very minor blemish in the paint on outside edge of Vol control there's a spot that looks a little on the thin side but other than that she's perfect! I gave her a good couple coats of polish on body and back of neck, NICE & shiny and neck is slick! I'll be playing her in our Easter Church Service tomorrow, which I'll be part of a big Cantata with 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, 1 Baritone, 25 piece choir, table of 30 handbells, grand piano and me on bass playing the organ part. Then a few songs with our Praise band. Fun Fun!

I played my new Squier VM P today for 2 Easter Sunday services and it mixed in very well. The grand piano player told me she could hear me a lot better today than before. A lot of positive comments on it.
It's going to be my #1 for awhile I think
WD Music carries them. Am St pickguards will also fit, but some screw holes MAY be different.
How is the neck profile on these basses? Is it like a normal P-bass in that it is chunky compared to a 5-string J-bass? Thanks!
To tell you the truth I expected chunkier. IMO, the neck is real close to a jazz, just so slightly more. I've been playing a 5 string jazz bass for the last 16 months and I have no problem going back & forth between the two. My hand doesn't seem to feel any difference.
J vs P comparisons don't really hold with 5-string Fenders.
I have a Mexi Jazz V downstairs right now. The neck is 1 7/8" wide at the nut, and a hair under 7/8" deep at the first fret. At the 12th fret, it's just shy of 2 5/8" wide, and 1" deep.
In contrast, my VMP5 is the same width at the nut, but a 16th shallower at the first fret. The shoulders of the Squier neck fall away a little faster, almost a soft V, which makes it feel a little less of a handful than the MIM Jazz. It's the same story all the way to the 12th fret.
Weight-wise, the Fender is a porky 10lb 5oz, while the Squier is a sleek 8lb 6oz (it lost 6oz after I installed a set of licensed Hipshot Ultralights).
I can't compare them electronically, given that the Squier is stock, and aside from being a Jazz, the Fender has Duncan QP's and an Audere preamp. Acoustically, they sound surprisingly close to each other. Unplugged volume is almost identical. The difference in brightness (the Squier has a little more harmonic complexity) is easily explained by the fresh light-gauge balanced tension D'Addario nickel rounds, vs the thicker, well worn-in regular tension nickels (EXL170's) that are on the Fender.
In this case, it's the Precision that feels a little sleeker and easier to play.
