Have you tried raising the pup up on the B side at all? You may get a more even response across all the strings with a little bit of fine tuning.

^^ My A & D were weak out of the box. Raising the centers on the pups made a world of difference.

I am loving this thing! Apparently the tone in my head, the one I chased for a long time with active electronics and fancy woods, was in the one bass I avoided regularly, for no particular reason! Had a couple gigs last week, and, while I'm still dialing things in, it was great. Tone was what I wanted, playability was great, and the look is just classic.
I'm considering swapping the tuners and the bridge at some point. I know they are good enough, but I like to tinker, and I like to make a bass my own. I'm thinking of a set of Hipshot HB7 Tuners, as they will be a drop in replacement, and I love their products. For the bridge, I'm looking for something that will drop in easily. Anyone know if a BadAss V will? I notice it also has 6 screws like the stock bridge. Are there any other drop-in bridges? I can modify if need be, but would prefer not to.

That looks fantastic! Amazing how much more I like the red/maple when it has a b/w/b pickguard.
The last time I checked, Babicz didn't do an MM spacing 5-string bridge, so you can't use his stuff.
The Hipshots share a couple of screw holes, but require some redrilling. People often take advantage of the opportunity to relocate the bridge a little anyway, to get more room behind the B-string saddle. Don't know about the BadAss.
The american deluxe fits just skewed to the treble side a bit. The grooved saddles allow to compensate for the difference.
It allows topload and string through. The plate has grooves to stop side to side movement. Drilling is no big deal if you choose to do string through body. I found the additional down pressure on the saddle firmed up the B a bit.

Hey, here is my bass back from the local repairman. New pickguard with reverse P-config, and the Wyldepickups Bill Lawrence P-46 in a symmentrical split. Also a bandmate wraps and decorates surfaces for a living and offered to coat the bass in a graphite looking vinyl. Looks pretty cool I think. Now looking forward to hearing it with the band in two days. Oh, and Fender stringtrees.

Ever A/B reverse P w normal? Does it make a noticeable difference?
Thanks. I haven't A/B anything with all else being equal, but on this bass it seems that the B, E, and A-string are a little more tight sounding, as in more mids. The D/G coil is more towards the neck than on a normal P, but I am not sure I can hear noticably more fatness on them. Then again, several variables have changed; different pickup, different position, new strings etc. In theory it should sound a bit deeper for those strings though.
Reverse Ps usually sound tighter on the low strings, and gives the higher strings more depth, but the differences are not usually OMG level. One thing I do find reverse P helps with is a P/J combo - the reverse P mixes better wit ha J bridge pickup IMO.

You'll have to report back how the BL pickup works out. Thought about one myself due to the massive love they receive on here..
OMFG what a huge difference. Clearer more articulate fattened up the a,d,g tightened the e and b.
Brought out detail on the E and B of the harmonic overtones. DEAD SILENT. Passive, super sensitive, hot but not too much so. Dynamic range expanded , super open and uncompressed, and uncolored.
Jim's pickups just can't be beat.

Do you have any A/B recordings?Reed James neos are in! They are to american standards dimensions so fair warning, a little shaving is required of the pickguard. Jim was cool enough to do this on his CNC

It is undeniably a precision! just with its throat cleared.
The top end extension is just where you want it easily rolls off leaving the mids to step forward as you dial the tone control toward 3/4 . I have a familiar set of stainless DR Lowriders an this thing is
lethal. Dropped the broken in set of labella low tension flats.
Thunk with foam mute jumps right out. Positively sings in the upper register and down low growls like a cornered bear. now remember I upgraded the bridge and drilled string though. Played 2gigs after this mod. And am familiar with the bass before the install of the pups. The ,RJ Neos have not been gigged yet but at home and with headphones.
Can't wait to plug this into the Mesa Titan/ EA cx310
