Squier Vintage Modified Precision V: who's got one?

The one you installed is the universal version, not the Squier drop-in model, correct?

If so, a couple of questions:
- Did at least one of the holes line up correctly, so you didn't have to measure to get correct alignment?
- Were the unwanted holes far enough out of the way that you could just ignore them, or did you have to fill some of the original holes before drilling?

Yes, it was the universal version. I filled in some of the stock bridge holes when i put a Hipshot B bridge on it shortly after I purchased it, leaving only the outside holes. Those don't line up. I believe I ended up using the holes from the B bridge, as well as a couple I had to add, and it lined up correctly. The Kickass is large enough that it covered any and all holes I have in the bass.

My stock neck is incredible and on a par with custom work I've owned. Maybe I got lucky.

Question: Is that Kickass 18mm spacing? ...looks a tad wider, but it must be or the strings wouldn't line up along the neck edges like that, yes?

I recently got one. I haven't done much to it. I redid the wiring and shielded the hell out of the thing, so much copper, both on the body and on the pickguard. In fact, so much copper that the output jack needed heatshrink on it to keep it from shorting against the shielding heh. But the pickup is stock, so the sound is all stock. I haven't even changed the strings. Sounds like a P Bass, no matter how I play it.

I like the bass. It sounds and plays great. It actually replaced an American Standard Precision V that I felt was getting a little stale for me. Nothing was wrong with it, it was perfect for what I got it for. Just turns out that I didn't really need what I thought I needed, and I didn't want to keep a nicer bass like that around if I wasn't using it all the time. I still wanted that flavor, though, so I decided to sell the American Fender and buy a Squier and put the extra cash toward something else. Live, I think I'll always favor my American Standard Jazz V, but when you're recording, I feel like the Precision tends to be easier for me, less to think about.

The only thing I would personally like to do is change the strings and probably the tuners. I just don't like heavy tuners, and I don't really care for roundwound strings. I was thinking maybe white nylon La Bellas might be my flavor of choice. I've always done flats by default, but lately I just feel a little different. With the shielding, I think it's quiet enough that losing the string ground isn't too problematic.

That's the beauty of the bridge- adjustable spacing. I'm guessing it can go from 16-17mm up to 19mm or so. I lined it up with the pole pieces, but still had room to go wider.

I've used LaBella white tapes on mine with good results.
