St. Patty’s Day gigs

We are playing tomorrow (sat) night for St Patricks Day. 4 hour gig at a new venue. We are doing a couple of "Irish-ey" songs...Shipping up to Boston and Zombie (only because the Cranberries are Irish and we already had that song in the setlist). For Shipping Up to Boston, i dont even play bass...I play keys. I start with a banjo sound, then add in an accordion sound on top. Fun if I nail the riff which is quick. Singer plays bass.

Venue looks to be a good size VFW type place and they are paying well, and its 6-10, an early night.

Playing tonight, not really St Paddy’s day tho… the only 2 we do that are remotely Irish, which are part of our standard set, are Come on Eileen and the heavier cover version of Zombie by Bad Wolves.

But my wife did give me this cool necklace just in case I need to be festive.

Not a St. Patrick's Day gig, but we are playing tonight at a local VFW (always fun) and a Gala tomorrow night to benefit a local HS and Police Department. We've done this gig for the past 3 years and I'm sure something Irish will happen at both gigs (probably Jameson)

CaliCeltic, the Celtic/Rock-ish originals band I'm in is booked pretty solid this weekend.
Tonight the band is featured at the Firehouse Theater in Pleasanton. We've done this show before and it's a lot of fun.
Sat we're at the Sausalito Yacht Club
Sun we're at the Dublin (CA) St Paddys Festival with an 8:45am downbeat eek and then were doing 5-7pm at the SF United Irish Cultural Center's St. Paddys street fair ... should be pretty lively!

If any of you end up at any of those gigs, make a point to say hello!

Nada, this weekend... but we have a gig in the same month, on the 30th. We played St. Paddy's day last year, at a small pub... straight classic rock, and not a peep out of anyone for anything Irish...

... not that there's anything wrong with that.

My great grandfather immigrated from Contessa, Sicily to New Orleans in 1898. One of the few immigrant Sicilians who could speak/read/write in English and Italian, he found ready work (even approached by the 'Black Hand', the ancient mafia of those days, no thanks). My grandfather and three of his siblings were born there as well.

There were many Italian immigrants to the Gulf Coast, as the seafood and climate were not much different than Southern Italy or Sicily. Today, the Carraba's restaurants were started by two families who did just that, and their dishes remind me of the way my family cooked.
