St. Patty’s Day gigs

So who is booked this weekend? We’re playing a three-hour gig - got billed as a dance band (we’re not) for a heavily lrish-themed fundraiser. We don’t play Irish music (not even U2 and we have a sub drummer. What could possibly go wrong?! It’ll be fine, I just hope we don’t disappoint.

Nada, this weekend... but we have a gig in the same month, on the 30th. We played St. Paddy's day last year, at a small pub... straight classic rock, and not a peep out of anyone for anything Irish...

... not that there's anything wrong with that.

We don’t do any Irish songs either. But we’ve put together a few solo songs during the breaks.
The establishment asked us specifically to play there, and…it’s an early gig.

We just picked up a St Paddy’s sub gig for tomorrow. First outdoor show of the year! 4:30-7:00pm. The only slightly Irish song we’re doing (begrudgingly) is Brown Eyed Girl. Slàinte!

I am playing today (Friday) and Saturday with a classic rock band and then Sunday a new place (new in business and new for us) with my rock duo (with programmed drums).
No Irish music, though for Sunday I guess somebody inquired if we did any Irish music and I told the venue NO.

We're booked every year at this one venue that has a large St Patrick's Day Party including National Acts or Tribute Bands. This year it will be 4 bands with us as the Direct Support for a Dokken Tribute Band on Saturday. Already planning on using my Green Fender Limited Edition Plus Top Jazz Bass.

The northern hemisphere outdoor St. Patrick's Day gigs always reminds me of this quote:

"Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy, which sustained him through temporary periods of joy."

It is like this holiday was designed to be at a time of the year when the weather could either be miserable or beautiful.

none this week, but the past few years I have and there is a bagpipe and drum group that goes barhopping, they march in blaring their pipes and drums, play like one song, and head to the next plcae haha. it's crazy
