Stadium Arcadium

I finally finished listening to the entire album, and I've gotta say that musically, it's incredible. Flea, John, and Chad are at the top of their games, IMO.
(in respect to their new style) But I'm extremely disappointed in Anthony's lyrics and melodies. I've always loved the Peppers, and he's never bothered me before, but I think he kind of ruined this album. Well, not "ruined", that's a bit harsh, but it would be a much better listen if you could just cut out the vocals. His vocals stand out as having no direction lyrically, disappointing hooks (hump-de-bump? EXCELLENT bassline, drumbeat, cowbell solo!, but ... hump de bump?), and similar melodies
(I think he found a range that he's comfortable with, and he's not moving). But, ignoring the vocals, the music is really good. I'm impressed. This is probably my favorite Flea album next to Californication. (of course I loved his playing prior to that album, but that's when he started going out of the pentatonic scale and sounding more "musical" than "funky bass man", and i really dig that.) And John's background vocals continue to be as layered and intense as By the Way, but they're not as intrusive. This one doesn't sound like "John's Album", which is what BTW sounded like to me. The ideas they had on that album seem to blend together more here, and this one flows a lot better. Plus, Flea isn't just playing to support John's songwriting, so there's plenty of sweet basslines here. 3/5 after first listen, I just have to learn to tune out Anthony.

All IMO, of course.

Stopped listen with any consistancy after Mother's Milk. Have Blood Sugar & One Hot (bought them both used), but won't be buying any more.
Still spin quite often Up Lift Mofo Party Plan and Freaky Styley like crazy- REAL RHCP IMO

Actually, I'll jump over to www.allofmp3.com a few days after it's out and get it there for like $2.

If you haven't checked allofmp3.com out yet, do so.

I've been using it for about two years now and never had one issue. So I guess I will be getting the new one!

how do they get away with charging that much for an album? I guess i just don't understand... thats awesome though as long as there's no catches.

wow I had no idea that almost everyone on hear is so pigheaded and unopen to different types of music. Sure, its not as funky as BSSM. If you want BSSM listen to BSSM. If you would like the same thing repackaged as new stuff listen to someone else. Just because it isn't "funk" doesn't mean its not good. From what I read most people just said ugh BSSM was better. Wheres the funk? or i don't like this pop crap. You all need to open up. Break out of your little box and take another listen. Who wants the same thing?

All of this my opinion no flaming needed.

I love every single Red Hot Chili Peppers album as well as all of John's solo stuff. By The Way is probably my favorite right now. So catchy and so melodic and just so good. In my opinion.

I guess I'm like not many 'round here, but I love the new single, and I can honestly say out of all the albums, it's a straight-up tie between "Californication" and "By The Way" for my favorite.

I love the way "BSSM" is mixed, and I think if "BTW" was mixed that way, it'd even be cooler, but I donno. It's just so different, and some of the stuff is SO atypical for them it's awesome. I listen to "BTW" all the time and it honestly gets better each spin.

I've never really cared for the vox that much anyways, so if they're not "on par" for what IMO weren't that great in the first place, I don't lose much in that department. :)

I would like to echo this opinion. BSSM is my favourite Chilis record, but that doesn't stop me from loving By The Way.

Or, yknow, maybe some people just don't like the Chili's music after OHM. Like me. Maybe YOU need to open up and understand that not everyone has to like everything for the world to go round. And just because I want them to go back to doing the funk doesn't mean I want the same damn thing. I just want funk! Come on! There's lots of funk out there, they can do it!

The only thing I find more aggravating than people who are close minded are people who are intolerant of the concept of disliking something.

And as far as the same stuff repackaged, I got to say Stadium Arcadium sounds a hell of a lot more like a repackaging of By the Way (albeit a little better) than any of their albums have ever sounded like a repackaging of another album.

its damn good. I do miss their old style. But atleast they're not pop crap like on BTW. It's really a slightly funkier Californication. The next album will be a great one too Im sure, but thats a ways off lol.

SA is pretty damn good. 3rd favorite, although I do hate a few of the tracks (notably the title track). But what is good is good and what is great is great, and very little if any is filler and what is great is amazingly great.

Although I great AK's lyrics have gone down hill. Not even so much his hooks, but just... no quirky funky lyrics like Purple stain or anything off BSSM, nothing all that witty, nothing all that moving...

just..

hump
de
bump.

:(

still, about what I expected and damn good it is.

For me Blood Suger Sex Magic was the highlight of R.H.C.P career ...the perfect mix of Funk and Rock, together with an amazing production and excellent music writing.
Of course they had some great songs now and then after that album , but No whole album reached to theBlood Suger Sex Magic level.
Unfortunately i don't think that they will be able to create another perfect creation like that one again.
One of the reasons is that they changed their way in music and they are more rockish and less funky nowadays.

That's just my opinion and I'm sure some people will dissagree.

Adisu.

I need to open up? I didn't say you have to like I just said listen to it again. Just because its not BSSM (which a lot of people said) isn't a good reason to not like it. Jeeze.

For all of the people that complain that they aren't doing BSSM-style funk anymore...do you really expect to see a bunch of 40 year old guys to be flopping around the stage hammering out punk-funk riffs and singing about ****ing cops and such?
They've grown up, and so has their music. They're older, more introspective, and more varied stylistically. It's to be expected. If it didn't happen, they'd just be a nostalgia act at this point...and a pretty embarassing one at that.

Also, I don't think I'd consider them a "funk" band at any point in their career. There was plenty of attitude on Californiacation, it's just not thrown in your face. Could it be...they're a bit more subtle and nuanced with age?

Fwiw, Californiacation is my favorite album of theirs (although I thought By The Way was a bit of a slide creatively...felt like Bsides to the Californiacation Bsides). That said, I think that BSSM is the most original statement that they made. You can't just continue to make that statement over and over again. It develops...

You basically called everyone who doesn't like their new music pigheaded. That's a bit of a pigheaded remark, don't you think?

My opinion on the album is that it is a major dissapointment. It lacks the funk that they had going on in the early days, and is simply a rehashed version of By the Way, which was for all intents and purposes pop rock, and in my ears sounded like crap. Therefore, pop rock + crap = pop crap! Voila! In summary, the 2006 album Stadium Arcadium by The Red Hot Chili Peppers is very bad. A dissapointment, considering that I had heard rumors of them trying to return to the sound of the early days, which was what I liked.

According to you this makes me pigheaded. re-evaluate the situation. Do I really sound pigheaded in that last paragraph?
Hint: No.

We don't all like the same types of music. That's what makes it great. Also, SA isn't different. It is very similar to By the Way and Californication. Several other bands are also making music very similar to what you can find on this album. Granted, it's not the Chili's, but it's the same genre. I've heard it, I don't like it. Pigheaded? Please.
