mr Thunderfly, there's no reason to call me close minded, I'm not closeminded at all, I like rock, I like pop, I like all kinds of stuff. BUT, it's not because the Peppers start playing pop, that the pop they are playing is good music. For all I care, they could be making a Hungarian folk music album tomorrow, and who knows, I might like it, if it's a good album! I've heard SA, and I'm sorry, imo the new songs are nowhere as good as for instance a 'Californication' or 'Scar Tissue'. That's why I thought the new album is crap, not because it's pop, but it's crappy pop (IMO !).

I also think the album is lacking really good melodies. Similarly to "Dani California" with its super-generic chorus, most songs somehow seem half-good, half-bad in my opinion.

I like the beginning and the verses of "Charlie", too bad they decided to ruin the song with an insanely weak chorus that made me go "what the hell were they thinking", "Snow" seems like a catchy pop song with the four chords of doom at first but starts going nowhere in the middle, "Torture me" is a decent rock song overall and even reminds me of One Hot Minute a bit but the horns really don't fit. "Hump de bump" has a nice groove but could als be called "generic funky song", "Desecration smile" seems like a nice, chilly ballad at first but, again, has a chorus that seems off. I could go on forever.
In my opinion, the worst song on the record is "Readymade", which sounds like the result of a five-minute jam and is built around a pentatonic riff anyone could think of.

"Tell me Baby" (the next single) seems solid overall (although Flea's bass line for the chorus seems strange and doesn't quite fit in with the drums to my ears) but I much prefer the live version I've seen on Youtube as it doesn't have the tacky overdub in the guitar intro.

Like I said earlier, someone also ought to tell John to lay off the guitar solos a bit, in my opinion he's didn't produce any memorable lines this time around, most of his solos on the record seem to simply ramble on and guitar wanking does not a heavy song make.

In my opinion, "Dani California" is very representative of the overall quality of the album.

I did thats why i stopped posting here. This site has really gone down the toilet. Call me a troll if you want to. Maybe thats what i am. But what i used to find was a good resource for musicians, now seems like littel more than 6 year olds arguing at recess.

for what its worth, this record is a keeper.

Okay, there are some pretty good tunes on this cd, but a ton of filler. I don't care for the mellow, grooveless stuff though. Instead of being a double cd, it could have stood to have been a 7-9 song CD. What's there is probably worth buying though.

My biggest problem with BTW was: too much filler. There were some great songs on that album, but not enough great tracks. Maybe 4 tracks out of 17 or 18 were really good. Now, instead of making an album with great 12 tracks on it, they do the opposite! Even more tracks! More filler!

To be fair, even BSSM had filler, IMO. For example, 'If You Have To Ask'.
