Stage 81: S/D thread

Pics of the "relic"

I have to do a little more sanding, there's still some low/glossy spots. It's harder to see the spots I burned through the color coat on the front, because of the angle.

pentagram is probably the most overrated band in this genre. nobody cared about them for 30+ years, and all the sudden theyre a big deal headlining festivals.

they had a guy playing drums for them who was in my buddy's local band, i was told that leibling and the guitarist are the two biggest psychos on the planet, and complete musical retards lol.

Pentagram is one of those bands that is famous because of one guy, who has a terrible reputation, but all their known songs/albums are written by someone else. Bobby is one of those guys who people credit with "writing all the songs", when what they mean is he writes the lyrics for every song, but Pentagram is "his" band. I like several of their albums, but I have zero admiration for Bobby, he seems like a world class a$$hole and a terrible person to be in a band with. I'm probably more of a Joe Hasselvander fan, since he wrote every song I really like by Pentagram.

Before I forget, shoutout to Toastfuzz for a smooth transaction via the classifieds. Sold a Digitech Bass Synth Wah.

Thanks dude, man this things sounds ridiculous, definitely a fun toy to add into the mix! Pittsburgh get ready for some DOOMstep!

Hartke stuff isn't very exciting or sexy, but it sounds good, is reliable (for the most part), and when something does go wrong they take care of you. A lot of other companies could learn something from Larry and his crew.

When I initially did a Google search for Larry Hartke it autofilled to "Larry Hartke's phone number". So i ran with that, found the number immediately, but then browsed a few forums where people discussed his strategy of advertising his personal number.

It really made me hate the internet. All these dumb kids on forums saying "I just called and left him a message that his amps suck and I'm never buying them!" "I just told him his cabs blow d1ck!" all these people who have never tried a piece of Hartke gear in their life, feeling the need to antagonize a guy just because they can.

might need a synth wah, just cheap and wacky enough to be acceptable. Also saw this random tone generator at the store, I think it would be great leave on and bug the **** out of people when you're away, idk what else though. It says it's excellent for soundscapes. And it kinda did, but being random, unless you are always recording, you lose it to time and chance.

He chose to be public, comes with the territory, I guess it's good zen practice to take all that and not lash out.

I love that show, and anyone I introduce it to just kinda looks at me like that sounds silly, then couch lock until they see them all.

Yeah the concept isn't a seller but when they watch it they get hooked! I showed my Mom and Aunt the gym episode where he messes up his neck and has to drive in left circles because he can't make a right hand turn and they had tearful laughter.

It would be funny if Larry made sarcastic phone calls back to those d-bags:

"Oh no, I'm SO heartbroken that some 15 year old jackass isn't using my gear. I guess Geezer Butler, Victor Wooten, Billy Sheehan and Dave Ellefson will have to be enough."

He probably doesn't do that. But it would be funny.

Going to put it in front of the flanger and delay, makes those harsh dubsteppy synth sounds more fluid and spacey. I'm thinking I'm either going to use it to make short jams extremely whacky, or set up the delay for some long-ass trails and let the synth wah + flang create atmosphere. I'm finding some fun NIN-type sounds are easily coaxed out of it... I havent even tried running it next to a fuzz yet.

Glad you dig it! I enjoyed using it for a couple gigs but nabbed a full-sized EHX Microsynth so I've been tinkering with that for a while. I keep telling myself I'm going to use it (or the Fuzzrocious Terrordactyl I got in a trade) in a track but I always end up going back to my usual fuzz/od shenanigans.

Hah at this stage in the game I'm focusing on fuzz and OD, kicking in the flang/delay combo when it calls for a wall of sound. While I dont have an immediate use for the BSW, I've always heard good things about em and have wanted one for awhile to mess with. And since I snapped the knob off taking it out of the bubble wrap, its ALL mine (at least til I find some JB weld)

Or a Toyota tercel!
