Stage attire 2019

As long as they have high quality fanny packs, I'm there.
How did I not see this post until now...

Yes yes yes

Hello.

New band. They wear loud stuff... Like, borderline Hawaiian print, disco era, polyester, paisley kind of stuff. I found some red pants. Need a shirt. Bonus points for links, pics, and/or anything under 20 bucks. Advice welcome. Hilarity encouraged.

How about these? There's a ton more at this site; here's the shirt link -

One of the hardest things to find is good stage shoes. If go to a shoe store, they have nothing that would qualify unless you are looking for western boots. Here is a great company with a large selection of great stage shoes for men and women. If you are putting on a show, be dressed for the occasion. It makes the music sound better! tukshoes.com

These are awesome, but I usually either go with Chuck’s or grandpa shoes (slip on, memory foam jobbies).

I was in one of those bands that wore loud shirts --- bandleader thought I was too tame and gave me this shirt but I could never bring myself to wear it. Is that wrong of me?View attachment 3313585

I'd wear that.

As a matter of fact, I found one in my size on ebay and just ordered it.

When the weather breaks we will be playing some gigs at a tiki bar, this will be perfect for one of those dates. There is also a gig we do once a year at a large (to us) outdoor venue. I'll wear this there as well. $15 to cover stage wear for two gigs? Sure, why not?

Choose the nuclear option. Loud shirt, cargo shorts, crocs, fedora, and a soul patch. Also sunglasses regardless of time of day or being indoors.

I resemble that remark... The sunglasses are only when the stage lighting is blinding due to low ceilings. (Note the reflections on the glasses.) As for the flames on the shirt, we are called "Hellin Back", so...

Jeans, tee shirt (preferably Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, or Eagles tee shirt).

Lame dress requirements = refusal.

If I have to dress like a clown to play, I simply say no thanks--I've quit several bands over the years for that specific reason. I do music because I enjoy it and I want to enjoy it as I'm doing it. Dressing like a clown onstage makes sitting at home playing along with MP3s more enjoyable. So why not just sit at home and play to mp3s? Much less a pain in the tailpipe.

So my first question when asked to perform as a sub or join a band is... do you guys dress like clowns? I base my answer on their response (along with what their band sounds like, of course). If I get any static, my response is, "You either like my playing or you do not. If you like it enough, hire me. If not, don't."

From the other end, as a member of the audience, I've never respected a band that dress like dorks. They either sound good or they don't. That's all I care about. And I felt this way long before Nirvana made the hair bands and glam metal outfits look like dorks.

Well, yer certainly entitled to yer opinion. I wonder how much fun you've cost yourself over the years. Kinda sad, actually.<Edit>you could consider it as an actor 'playing a role'. Yer 'job' is to entertain. If an outfit is part of the requirements-just like a uniform, safety wear, suit and tie for business, etc., then that's what you wear or how you interact with customers, or whatever is the case. Otherwise, you sit at home with your thumb in an uncomfortable place.

None that I'm aware of. I have on many occasions though, avoided nights of misery. Honestly, all it took is a couple of times years ago being talked into "dressing up" to know that I'd never be doing that again.

And at this point in my life... well let's just say nobody wants to see an old goat trying to pretend like he is Lady Gaga or ICP. I'm not in it to get laughs.

Not once, in the entire thread, did anyone mention dressing like a clown. Leave your fears and phobias out of this please.
