Star Trek Beyond

This really doesn't look too interesting. I love Star Trek, too. Even the reboots... But this? Nah.
It's directed by Justin Lin. THAT right there is enough to tell you it's going to suck ****. It's going to suck even worse than Star Wars directed by JJ Abrams is going to suck.
I haven't watched a Lin movie. What's wrong with his directing?

Have you seen any of the Fast and Furious movies? He directed most of them. It's mindless action. Explosions and fighting and pretty girls. Nothing wrong with that, but he's the wrong choice for a Star Trek movie.

I saw two of them. I remember liking the first one and Tokyo Drift. I guess I'll have to wait until this one comes out at the discount theater nearby. I'm not too confident about it.

F&F are total garbage IMHO.

I liked the very first one I saw. But then I saw the 2nd one, and I thought, "I may have seen this before." The 3rd one was even more similar to the 2nd one than the 2nd one was to the 3rd one. After that, my mind is a blur. Suddenly, I remembered Friday the 13th Part Eleventy Seven, Jaws 3D and Alien vs The Brady Bunch, (that one was actually pretty good, if a bit predictable.) I wondered why some of the great classics had no sequels. Citizen Kane II would have been amazing, and Casablanca: Rick Gets Even probably would have been even better than the original. Maltese Falcon Part II: Return of the Fat Man. Quadruple Indemnity. Sunset Stripped. Gone with the Wind and Back Again. Think of the possibilities!

I liked in Friday the 13th part x, Jason in space, how they parody'd the franchise in the holodeck camping scene.
2 girls by lake say "let's smoke pot and have sex", then Jason appears, picks up the sleeping bag with girl in it, and beats her against a tree... just classic

I've done that, man. It's not as easy as it sounds, especially in space.

I love the re-boots. Let it roll.

I'm really looking forward to it but I hope it doesn't stink. I've been waiting years for a new Star Trek show.

I think I may be in the minority, but I enjoyed Enterprise. I thought it was cool, and I like the fact that they broke out of this restrictive single episode model and went in the direction of something that built episodically. It had it's flaws, but I did see some interesting aspects to that show. Especially as the Federation was in it's formative stages.

As for the new show? I'm intrigued. But at the same time I'm kind of bummed that it's going to be behind a pay wall with this CBS on demand service. I pay enough for TV right now between my cable/broadband provider, Netflix and Amazon Prime. Because of those options I don't subscribe to Hulu, and I'm probably not going to pay for this new CBS service.

I skipped the last Trek movie in the theater. Once it was leaked that they were trying to resurrect the Khan storyline I thought it was just derivative and probably wouldn't be worth checking out. And the more I see of Star Trek Beyond, it seems much more like an action movie set in the ST universe rather than something with the spirit of exploration of other Trek series. I'm probably going to skip it until I can see it on cable.

I liked enterprise a lot. The season long Xindi arc ruined the show. It probably would've gone on for seven seasons like TNG, DS9 and Voyager if it wasn't for season 3.

As for the way CBS is doing the paid thing, it's the way of the future. We'll all get used to it.
