Star Trek Discovery

Watch the show and find out. You might be pleasantly surprised.
I will eventually. When the season's over and I either find someone who will give me their cbs all access information or I manage to get a free trial. I know I'll still hate it. Alex Kurtzman is still involved. But if I can see it for free, I will. I only asked out of mild curiosity. My expectations couldn't be lower. I'll probably wait till season three of Picard is over too to see what they do with android Picard. The same way people slow down at accidents to see what happened. I wanna see the carnage. If new Trek has given me anything, it's a greater appreciation of the old Trek. I'd rather spend six bucks on a four for four at Wendy's. Subbing out bacon jalapeño fries costs an extra buck.

Dude, I don't know if it was just the state of constant exhaustion I was in last year, but man, I nearly to an episode could not tell you exactly what I had watched until after a few views. Actually it was taking too much effort to understand that I took up watching TOS! :roflmao: I really enjoy Discovery and I am so glad Star Trek is back, but like the reboots, the special effects at times take away from the story telling. Sometimes, less is more.

There's interweb speculation that the Season 3 finale sets up a Voyager reboot. I don't see it and haven't read the articles so I don't know.

Edit: There were no F-bombs in Season 3 that I can recall. Alex Kurtzman and his minions were probably instructed that there were to be no F-bombs, period.

Unfortunately for someone, Michael Burnham gets to emote a lot. You know, crying, facial expressions, grunting during action scenes, etc. ;)

A fourth season has been confirmed. Not sure when filming begins, but it's likely to be later this year, as the next season of Picard starts filming in March, and it'll probably be after that. Everything's running quite far behind thanks to the pandemic.

We'll probably end up with some new episodes of Lower Decks first. :)

Regarding your spoiler, there was indeed a new ship with that name in the 31st century, but we never met the crew, or saw it for more than a few seconds, so I'm not sure there's enough there to suggest a spinoff series. There was also a new Reliant(-K), and, somewhere out there, there's also bound to be a new Enterprise.

Nope, no F-bombs this season, quite a few S-bombs though (including a comment about what is used to fuel the replicators)...

I managed to start a trial. A few minutes into episode one and there's a space battle and Michael Burnham crying. I find her intensely unlikeable.
You're in for a, uh, intense ride.

I'm in what I imagine to be a very lean company of viewers who actually liked season 1. Because it was during a war, and the 'splosions made sense in that context. Sure, Michael's the first Starfleet mutineer ever, and she singlehandedly started the war itself and then oh, did you know that over through the looking glass she was the princess? But, I dunno. Watchable overall. (And I found comparisons to The Orville annoying. That one is a literal joke, which becomes good at times but even then, in a juxtaposed, skitzo, Mr. Bungle way, alternating with fart jokes and contemporary references.)

Electric boogaloo was - oh, right, how could I forgot (didn't feel like rewatching season 1 ahead of the second, I'll admit) that stupid thing of her being Spock's sister nobody knew about? Uh, and she's no less than key to saving the freaking galaxy? Ugh. (OK, I'll also admit I'm no fan of time travel stories, but this one felt pretty egregious: is it their failure to make it barely easy to follow, or just me? The latter, I guess.)
Well, on the other hand (besides Pike turning out great), at least the season ends when they're moving on up to the future: that's gotta be bigger and better things, right?

Nope.
S3 was infuriating, to me.
I've already - read: elsewhere on this forum - said my piece regarding Trek female main characters who adopt annoying hisses when in persuading mode. I suppose Martin-Green can be a decent and even good interpreter with material that flexes her acting muscles but, to me, this is evidently not it.
The final nail, even more than the story, is the architecture of the show and Burnham's place therein.

[But I'll shut up now: more on this, if you're interested, as you progress in the viewing.]

Michael Burnham's "emoting" has been previously attested to. She hisses. She cries. She grunts. She makes faces. I stipulate to all those facts. They're in the record.

Can we get past that and move on to the next complaint(s)? :D

Edit: Every TV show has a "bible" or whatever you want to call it that describes in detail how characters behave, their "look", their manner of speaking, etc. If everyone involved in making an episode is following the show's bible, it shouldn't matter much if at all who wrote or directed that episode. All that stuff is baked in.

Actors like Martin-Green are performing to the show's specifications and with the director's approval. She can't go rogue and take her own path at every whim.

I'm done for today. Carry on. :D

Who's to blame for her good or bad acting is irrelevant to me. I still can't stand her. This show is jam packed with emotion in every second of every scene. That's the primary focus. Not story and not characters but.......dramatic pause.........DEEP OVERWHELMING EMOTION. The show drips with it and every drop is phony and contrived. I'm two and a half episodes in. It's hard to watch. I have a week to get through all ten. I know people here seem to like it, and that confuses me greatly, so I'll shut up till I'm done with it.
