I'm not sure. It's technically Star Trek. It's canon. I have to see it.
Adira is in the pool trying to connect with the host and there's a quilt in the box. It's supposed to be so deep and heartfelt and emotional. Adira. Who I've known for ten minutes. The Russian bots that CBS buys to comment on Twitter were probably weeping when this originally aired.
Regular CBS was nice enough, due to filming delays caused by the virus, to make season 1 available on regular TV. So, I just finished episode 13 (of 15).
The special effects are just fine, very well done. The only holdback with me is I'm just not emotionally connecting with the characters. Just not caring enough about any of 'em. From what I've read, seasons 2 and 3 won't be put on regular TV, so I may never know if my opinion of the characters would change. I'll finish out the season. To me, it's an OK show, but not inspiring enough to pay for CBS All Access.
Besides the virus reason, I think CBS was inspired to put Discovery season 1 on regular TV as a commercial to whet the appetites of folk to subscribe to CBS All Access. Probably has worked, too. I wish they'd do the same with the 1st (I think only?) season of Picard. Would like to give it a go. If not, maybe I can pick up the DVD's at a later date.
Since I'm not engaged in Discovery, I've read the plots of each episode in seasons 2 and 3 (Wikipedia). I like what I read and really like the throwbacks to early Star Treks. So for those who like the show and haven't seen them all yet, I think you won't be disappointed.

I've watched the entire series and I can't identify Adira without looking it up.
Edit: Oh, they! Of course. Hey it's a large cast of characters and sometimes names of the more minor players just didn't register in my brain.
You can't remember the names of the characters because they're not impactful. Can you picture the character Nhan as you read this? How about Bryce or Rhys? I bet you can't. I had to look at a list to come up with those names and I'm watching the show right now. Dozens of episodes in and no one can name the whole bridge crew.I've watched the entire series and I can't identify Adira without looking it up.

Well here's part of the problem with remembering who everyone is, especially when so many of the DSC characters have "odd" names and may not appear in every episode. These screen grabs for TOS and DSC are from Wikipedia. I had to zoom out on the DSC cast to make it fit the screen.

From DSC Season 3 I can rattle off these major characters from memory without looking at the cast list.

Well, I ripped through all three seasons over the last month or so. Did I enjoy it, well, kinda. I thought seasons one and two were hard work to get through; I kinda started hoping that some of the main characters would get killed off to relieve my pain, but I pushed on.
Season three was at least different and I found it more interesting, but my hope is that if there is a season four, based on season three's ending, we will be seeing more new civilizations and more challenges for the crew of Discovery.

They almost got me with the clip of old Spock talking about reunification from TNG. My cold lizard heart almost felt something based entirely on nostalgia, my love of TNG, and the fact that Nemoy is dead. I felt the beginnings of increased eye moisture. Then they cut to Michael's face emoting as hard as she could and they lost me.

I think you summed it up nicely Gorn. It's really unwatchable, and I'm an overgrown sci-fi nerd.
You really want to stay off FB discussion boards, if you question anything regarding canon, continuity, story telling, writing, acting, you get piled on quickly and lumped into some predictable and very unflattering categories.
Since I can no longer stand the show, I stay away from discussions about it, with the exception of here. TB is an island of civility, where divergent points of view are simply that and not something else. Usually.

Allow me to assist you. Although I'm not sure all these viewers watched the same show I watched.
I came really close to turning off the last episode before it was over. I had no idea what was going on and I was getting a headache.
When Michael made negotiations between the Federation and the Vulcan/Romulans about herself and her personal growth and relationship with her mother, I almost threw the remote at the tv.

Also were you disappointed that the cause of the burn wasn't some new supervillain like say Khan, as opposed to a Kelpian child?

That scene took every bit of mystery and grandeur out of the Guardian of Forever. Made it comical, or made an attempt at comedy. And why would Georgeou demonstrating better choices solve her problem? That started as kind of a cool idea. Time traveling after universe traveling causing problems for your atoms, but moral redemption solves it?
As far as the villain, that was the Orion lady and she was just awful. Not menacing. Not interesting. No depth. The cause of the burn was ludicrous. The kids connection to dilithium was ludicrous. Bad sci fi. He was born there and a throwaway line explains his connection to all the dilithium in the galaxy and how his emotional state relates to it? Did you like that?
