Why/when was the XM bass discontinued?

View attachment 3786800

I don't know why the bodied Spirit discontinued (or the interesting others....)I think that Headless Bass would be re-considered and in this optics Ibanez Success and Yamaha interest demonstrate my Idea. Spirit original body that I have is unconfortable, if It would be bodied can be one of my favourites.
Marketing is a Mystery things and bass players knows....

I bought my XM-2 in 2011. It was (is) in excellent condition. It was passive but the original owner decided to add that EMG booster switch. That did nothing for me so I took it out and decided to fill the 4 holes with an EMG BQC preamp with sweepable mid. Much better for me. I haven't played it much because my string selection was depleted. I had been using Status strings for years and was down to using a set of roundwound HotWires I had left over. Did a couple gigs (when we still could) and I wasn't crazy about them.
What it needed was a good set of flats. So today I put on a set of LaBella 43-104 and they gave this bass new life, at least for me. Couldn't put it down. Highly recommended if you want to add some meat to the tone!!!

I have one and have tried it several times. I got it when it first came out and the double ball selection was pretty limited.Using the adapter could be problematic with string stretching. Back then Status had a wide selection of gauges and types and it was worth ordering from overseas. They've narrowed that selection considerably.
At this point there are enough quality manufacturers of double ball strings to provide something I like.

But thanks for the head's up!

I haven’t replaced the strings on my 86’ XP-2 in years, and it’s well and truly time, they are completely dead. I had a set of Stainless round in a super light gauge, with a .030 in the G, but can’t remember the brand (Funkmaster, perchance?) I bought them at a local guitar store now defunct. If they don’t exist anymore, I’ll go heavier, but I’d like to keep them light, .040 in the G maximum. Anybody know a source for double ball stainless in super-light gauge?

Edit: Found em! My google-fu came through
