Hello to all SH club members...
I have a problem with my SH Fender signature Olympic white and the high tension flat strings SH77.
I like the sound and fell of the SH77 Rotosound flats but my bass tech says that the neck cant handle that tension,that he tried to adjust the truss rod numerous times,and he always gets the curve in the neck after 12-24 hours.
He recomends roundwound strings,but i dont want that.
Is this really an issue with this neck,that Fender cant handle the tension of the flats?Its hard for me to belive:)
I would appreciate any help from u guys...

I had the same issue with my Precision. Put on those strings and the tension was too much for the tuners. Didn't even touch the truss rod because I didn't want to mess with it with that much tension.

I have a v2 blue sh model.
I tried the flats that it came with and couldn't get on with the feel of them, so I put a set of 50-110 swing bass on and it is quite simply the best precision I have ever played. Versatile, full, fat WIN!! Lol

Mine came with the SH signature set, no problem handling the tension, the neck is pretty beefy.
I preferred lighter gauge though and changed them for Chromes and now EB Slinky rounds.

In fact, I preferred the version of the previous neck with a wider nut even if it does not actually correspond to the original version being Steve's bass from the 70s .. who can tell me value for money of the west ham version? thanks a lot!

I do want to add that I've taken steve home a few times. A real musical highlight for me.

I don't know how I missed this Steve Harris PB Club! I bought the Olympic White about a year and a half ago and I absolutely love it. I have a Fender MIM PB (fretless) along with a Fender MIM JB (Fretless). The Steve Harris Signature in Olympic White is my first fretted bass. There was a huge difference in weight, neck radius, frets and sound with the SPB-4 PU's.
I dig the massive sustain and brightness (mid tones) of the Steve Harris Signature (maple body). I was really used to the rosewood fretboard on my other basses until I bought the SHS. I had to purchase a few different guitar straps (in width) so I can sling the tank over my shoulder comfortably. I really dig this bass, a few things I'm not crazy about is the extra glossy finish. Is it a sell stopper? For some it might be but I have become comfortable with it over time. The West Ham emblem isn't something that I'm crazy about but it gives it character and separates this from other bass guitars. As you can tell, I'm not a Soccer fan but all aside, this is unique.
My other 2 basses are MIM and I have a few dead spots on the fretboard. So I was a bit reluctant to buy this, I didn't want it to be 3 out of 3 w/dead spots. I was very impressed by the quality and NO, there were NO dead spots on this bad boy!! Is it worth it? IMO yes! With prices skyrocketing now, it was a good deal then. I don't know what the going price is for them now but for the price then, I got my moneys worth. the sound, feel and build quality I would recommend it.
BTW, glad there is a club here!!

I am happy to read your opinion because in the end I made up my mind and I ordered it too .. I was puzzled by the fact that it was made in Mexico .. I also noticed that in Europe there is less and less availability, it becomes more hard to find it or I don't know if for the covid period at fender the production is going a bit slow .. however let's hope well as a fan of steve harris I couldn't not have it!
What string gauge have you mounted?

Thank you so much for your answer .. very probably I will also mount a softer gauge than flat, I thought a 40-100 .. but it is great to know that it is a really nice bass .. it will be a nice team with the sh1 tech21 :-)

I was having trouble deciding between the SH white bass and a player precision. I do prefer the chunky neck just not keen on that West Ham logo but I have thought about just putting stickers or a sticker over it. I was going to turn it into a punk bass anyways. Maybe just buy a big Eddie sticker instead.

I'd just stick to La Bella flatwounds .45-.105. They are not as stiff as the Steve Harris strings.
