That's just the perfect Honey Burst. I love my Honey Burst SR5 but I wish it was a little bit lighter and the fretboard a little darker. I'm tempted to get an HH in honey burst too.

That's just the perfect Honey Burst. I love my Honey Burst SR5 but I wish it was a little bit lighter and the fretboard a little darker. I'm tempted to get an HH in honey burst too.
I dig mine for sure. took me a minute though. I bought my honeyburst off of reverb. Communication stopped and I thought I got ripped off. A month later it showed. I had never had a 5 string and the string spacing was throwing me off. Everytime I would go for the D string I would miss it short. I did a setup and couldn't get the action right. Saddles were on the deck. I got it shimmed up and had a friend file the nut. Plays like a dream now. The tone is massive. It took me awhile to fall in love, but now I have those moments where everything fads away and all is right in the universe.
Crap, now you've gotten me tempted to buy a single H!
I'm mostly kidding, but if I actually ran across a honeyburst 5H with a maple fretboard, that might be hard to resist.

Well I went with the Tort anyway. The black was shiny and I prefer the old matte black. So I’ll search for one of those.

As much as I love the old school SR5’s, the new Specials really are just that. I love the upgrades and the modernizations. They have really outdone themselves.
I don’t own a Stingray Special (yet ), but I’ve gotten that same impression. My Stingray 5HH isn’t old school - it’s a 2007 so it has the Sterling 5 preamp and ceramic pickups. Definitely an aggressive beast when I want it to be, but it does back off nicely when I want it to, also. But the videos of the current Specials still tempt me sometimes.
As much as I love my other basses, there’s something about a Stingray that makes it my favorite bass and I sometimes consider selling one or two of the others to get a current model Special. The videos I’ve watched make me think they’re different enough from mine that I could get the same “feel” that makes my current Stingray my #1 but with a tone that’s different enough to be worth having.

Aside from the weight relief and aesthetic improvements, I thought the neck-through model was a real game-changer and a great step forward. Unfortunately they don't seem to be making them anymore; maybe they didn't sell. My neck-through SR5 will be with me for the rest of my life.
Here is a picture I found of one that got away. This was a fantastic Trans Gold from the early 2000’s. Sounded and played primo.

I thought it was a nice finish but that photo really brings out the beautiful sparkle!! Congrats!!
Mine's 2007 too! The first few years I had it GAS was convincing me that it wasn't as good as the alnico SR5s but I have grown to really love the ceramics. It's been the piece of gear I've kept the longest.
And just like you I have no problem with getting good tones with small EQ adjustments (I love that!). Funny years ago I tried Chromes and took them off the same day! Went back to the Slinkys and continue to use them. Don't know if I would go back to trying Chromes as I even have rounds on my fretless.
I'm seriously considering a SR5HH Special if it's below 9 lbs.! And still hoping EBMM announces a fretless version!
