Stolen Benavente SCD5 - Atlanta

I was down in Atlanta yesterday and talked to J, also stopped by Jim's new building (Atlanta bass gallery) and it looks great. Seems no one has seen or heard anything about it. The Police don't seem to be interested in helping J either. Jim seems to think the bass is gone and won't come up in the states more then likely, which others have stated here.

Hopefully with all out help we can get J's bass replaced, this is tough I know on him.

My funds are low right now, but I stand by my original pledge, and if everyone were to pitch in, could we get Chris to replicate it? It would be sufficiently different from the original- such is the nature of wood- yet similar enough to be a worthy replacement.

Just a word of encouragement... Many years agao I had a Kubicki factor stolen (I know not nearly as big a loss). a month went by... a year... then 5... then 10... I had completely forgotten about the bass. Then I get a call out of the blue from a shop I used to do business with... "Mike... aren't you that guy who had that light blue factor stolen"

I nearly fainted...

All that to say, never give up... bass players have long memories... A bass like yours cannot hide forever!

WOW Mike that's pretty lucky of you, but I have heard stories like that too. I hope this bass won't´be missing that long (Being A custom made) but yeah, you gotta hang in there J.
There's a great amount of people looking for it in the states, as well as outside.
I still hope to see the "Benavente Found, Thanks TB" thread

wow thor!!! I just saw this! I might have to take you up on that (after the NE GTG, of course), I'm down to 3 basses, but only my Fender J and the Nordy make it out to gigs. I'm still having problems with my fretless, can't afford to fix the probs at the moment, so this might help me on those fretless gigs.

Once I land a daygig, I'm hoping to get wifey-approval on putting down on another Bennie. Hopefully a stripped-down passive (VVT) 6 string SCD with the same p/up config.

I am really sorry for your misfortune. My car was broken into recently, but they just took sunglasses and CD's. (and my umbrella. sheesh) I didn't have any instruments or gear in the car. As trivial as it was, I felt violated having someone rifling through my stuff. What a nasty feeling. Somebody is walking around with some very bad Karma out there.

I would be happy to donate toward replacement funds to have Chris build a new bass for J-Raj. If the stolen bass turns up, the replacement bass could be auctioned with proceeds donated to some worthy charity or a worthy/needing recipient.

Let's get a donation/replacement fund rolling! I'm in for $100.

First off I have to say that this community is amazing and I'm proud to be apart of it, where else do musicians help others like TalkBass? I'm very thankful for those that have given their support and as equally thankful for the TB'ers that I have met here and created friendships with.

As for a SCD fund, there are a couple things that I would like to say upfront:

1. If my original bass is returned to me, I will sell either the new one or the original to reimburse each of the contributors OR flat-out reimburse each of the contributors out of pocket.

2. The next SCD will not be as over the top as the original, more of a toned-down worker-bee passive 6-string version. Nearly half of the cost of the original bass. Right before my Benavente 5'ver was stolen, I was thinking about switching it from E-C to B-G, but feel in love with the tone that it had in tenor-tuning.

3. One of the larger fall-out pieces of wood used for the bass will have each of the contributors' names written/etched on it.

4. This bass, along with the rest of my gear will be INSURED properly!
