Stone/Doom Bassists Thread Part 39: Flip Flops & Zubaz!

Remember how we were talking about doing a Dropbox thing for tunes to share?

In about an hour I'll be posting the first one. I figure I can do this once a week for you guys to grab some stuff.

This week

-Sleep
-Om
-Truckfighters
-Elder
-Clutch

Some essential bands everyone in here should check out (or own).

Nice! i can add some stuff too. the more people we get the more memory space we get i believe.

Yeah I figured I would start with some essentials then maybe do stuff like a drone one, psyche one, etc. I started thinking about it a couple of threads back when I found out so many people haven't listened to some great Pink Floyd stuff. That kind of shocked me a little, but I guess I'm just one of the old guys ;)

i can see my next bass being a short scale SG bass with a rick bridge pup, and the one after that being an old school Epiphone Rivoli for that delicious semi-hollow Animals tone that QOTSA shamelessly rip off. heeell yeah.

one of my band-friends has a black 70s P with lindy fralin pickups in it - godlike P tone. it used to have EMGs which were quite unpleasant.

Love my EB3 but the bridge pickup needs up grading… have you played the new EB3/SGs? Super light body with heavy neck. Like 2/3s the weight heavy. Feels good but odd. Play one with a strap before buying.

Yes! Been wanting truck fighters! Can't go wrong with om

I can drop the full sabbath and desert session discographies.

+1.

I can totally see my next bass being a custom P from Warmoth.

Jazz neck, blocks/maple. red p black guard. cream pickup covers. bridge cover. mmmm. thanks for the gas.

It would have to be under 8lbs though. Closer to 7, the better.

I've always thought maple board with block inlays looks sick on a P. If I ever got one this would also be the route I would take.

Thing is I don't get along with jazz necks that great either haha. I've only somewhat liked the Geddy jazz neck and even that felt kinda weird to me.

Playing ricks for so long really has spoiled me. I love that their necks don't taper a whole lot. Other basses just feel so weird to me now.

I know what you mean. I wish half the basses I have were like my Ric (neck wise)

I think it's just getting other people to sign up for Dropbox. Both of us would get 500MB. I think it has a 16GB cap for that though.

I have absolutely no idea how this thing works and I had never thought of it before until it was mentioned here, but as soon as you set it up give the word so we can jump in :D

Shame for the 16GB cap though. How easy it is to make multiple of them while keeping them in order (as much as possible :p)?

Yeah I've always found any active pickup bass to be pretty gross sounding. I'm definitely a passive kind of dude.

As for my next bass...most likely a new fireglo 4003. Probably set it up for downtuned C-C# carnage. I'd also love to get another Jetglo 4003 and do an 8 string conversion on it.

I figure an 8 string might come in handy since I'm trying to put together a bass and drums duo. It should really fill out the sound plus I've always been fascinated by them.
