Point being, you could spend anywhere from my budget to the higher end stuff. Do you want a blank canvas or framed art?
I don't really like either. Not sure which my Peavey's neck is close to. My friend's jazz bass has a neck that's okaaay... but not great. It's the taper more than anything that weirds me out.
This. Even the amount my Peavey's neck tapers somewhat annoys me now, after being used to my Rickenbacker and my 4001 copy.

I'd listen to the man that could build you the coolest most DOOM tube pre ever, the verellen would a perfect tube pre. If your budget was $1000, the other $500 could get you a power amp and a decent cab/s.
I'm the same way, i have big hands and long "piano fingers" I stumble over myself on the lower notes of a jazz neck. I like wide flat fretboards and meaty necks. My P-bass has a maple fretboard mighty mite neck that is awesome and fits my hand great, one of the most comfortable necks i've played.
Kinda OT but I got a question for you, what kind of guitars are your guitarists running? I'm trying out different tunings for an upcoming project and the lowest I've gotten with any intonation stability is Drop G on my 27" Baritone Jaguar. I've run out of room for saddle adjustment on the low G so I'm stuck there. But I'd love to mess around in F like you guys do, and I'm afraid I'm gonna have to keep my eye out for my elusive white whale of a guitar, a Fender Bottom Master, its basically a 28.5" scale baritone jaguar, with black hardware and different electronics. It's supposed to be able to be setup anywhere from baritone to bass vi tuning so that would work, but their impossible to find (I'm having a hard enough time finding a backup Baritone Jag).
You need to name this pedal the "Yob in a box" and have a graphic of mike scheidts head on a spring coming out a box.

Bongripper uses standard scale guitars an 80's Greco Les Paul, and a 90's Dearmond 7 string SG copy. Both set up to low F using a D string from a bass set and then the top part of a 7-string set for the rest and just ditching the higher strings.
I have an 80' Gibson LP and a 67' SG but both are just in Eb standard although I've been thinking that I might throw the LP into something lower. I'm not much of a guitarist but I like to screw around and sometimes it's a good way to write riffs.

The guitarist in my black metal band uses an old Les Paul, and an Ibanez 7 string thingy.
The guitarist in my doom band uses some Jackson dinky or soloist. I'm not too good at telling strat shaped guitars apart. I think it's regular Fender scale.
Does anyone else here have Fister's "The Infernal Paramount" on vinyl? I just spun it 'cause I'm trying to get some "riffspiration".

One of these would match mi Ric quite well. Its between this or a P90 guitar from Rondo for make next instrument.

I didn't get the Yob tone in a box thing either. When I saw them last Mike used a lovetone provalve 2 into a pigtronix philosophers tone. "Never one without the other"
His big chords sounded like 2 guitarist and he'd hit these complex chords that every note would come through like a knife...in a good way. Best doom band I've ever seen.

Mikes tones are always amazing. How he gets such heaviness without losing clarity for those big chords is beyond me.

For a long time Mike's pedal combo of choice was a ross (similar to dynaco) compressor into a Ross Distortion (there's tons of picturess of this combo on his pedalboard) In recent years he's been experimenting with alot more pedals, the optical compressor was nick's idea but the Suhr Riot clone was supposedly used on the recording of Atma.
Awesome thanks for the reply! I saw in the Roadburn video that the guitarist to your left was using a 3 pickup les paul but that's all i could tell, the guitarist to your right spent to much time facing you and the drummer to make out what he was playing.
As much as I love rondo's guitar's my OCD has a strangle hold on my GAS. I will eventually get a Bass VI but I would have to tune it up above where i would feel comfortable to get certain tunings, the bottom master being inbetween a baritone and bass VI allows you to tune closer to my sonic goals.
As stated above Mike's long time combo was a ross compressor + a ross distortion, and then recently he's been trying out all kinds of dirt pedals according to live pedal board shots. The one thing that has stayed constant is the use of a compressor at the beginning of his chain, even he has stated this in interviews. So to me building a compressor and a ross distortion / suhr riot in one enclosure would allow quick access to tones similar to those on The Great Cessation, The Unreal Never Lived, and ATMA. The other variable though is that he also switched amp setups between those albums, going from a Green / Matamp setup to a Marshall JMP style setup.
