I think they come across as 'yuppie' because of the accuracy of the design. Guys who mix 2x10's and 15's naturally don't get along with fEARful dudes.

Which is funny. there are a few 2x10 and 15 combinations that work just fine (Mesa comes to mind). Sometimes fEArful guys just can't let it go (I am guilty of this at times, too). But no one wants to be told their rig is f'd up.

Point taken. And I don't mean to lump all the fEARful guys in negatively anyway. They are almost as fun, open-minded and all-around cool as the stoner/doom crowd

at practice I'm about a foot and a half from my cab, on stage it will vary but it's usually quite a bit further, maybe 4-10 feet. having said that during practice i'll move around, and if i stand facing my cab about 10 feet away, i can barely hear the bass at all, and there is hardly any room-filling low end. on stage when i'm 10 feet way it sounds way better and i can hear everything plus more low end.

it must be how we set up at the jam space. we kind of form a triangle with the drums at the top and the guitar and bass pointed towards the drums from the other two corners. not a lot of space between us, maybe 6-8 feet...

What type of stage is it? I suspect that its wood and if so, you are experienceing coupling. It's almost like adding a boost pedal to your chain.

You know, once I got my Shuttlemax 12, I felt I really didn't belong here anymore. That, plus my fEARful 1212/6/1 made me feel out of place.

But last night I got a SMOKING deal on a Mesa M9. I feel it's safe to return...

Dude, I don't even OWN an amp, and I'm comfy here. (Well until I post this, then I'll feel unworthy.)

Cabs shouldn't have knobs. Period. Most amps have too ****ing many also. I don't care how many different ways I can change my tone on an amp. If an amp sounds good you don't need 25 knobs on it. You need around 3-5.

The only gripe I got with some of the custom guys is that when someone comes on here (a newb) and asks about cabs, the fEarful guys come along basically discredit every cab but fEarfuls. It's like, no don't get the $150 used Hartke that's in your budget, save the money and get a REAL cab.

Everyone who has one of those M9 Carbines raves about how great they sound and how loud they are. I've been looking at them and the M6 for a while, I bet either would sound killer with my SB4000 into say a Dually or something

Oh man, the M9 and an SB4000 is unbelievable. I actually tried an M9 with my SB once, before I sold it. Getting an SB5000 is on my GAS list- but next year. I need to take a break from buying all this stuff...

The M6 is fine, but the graphic EQ on the M9 alone is well worth the upgrade.

The dude I bought it from used it with a Dually. I think he regrets selling it. I sent the paypal payment when he was in the middle of offering it to me.

That attenuator sure comes in handy though. Glad I have one for the 10% of the time I actually use the horn.

I love my SB4000, except for the weight. I always use it for recording, I hardly ever practice or gig with it. I've thought about getting a 5000, it's tempting. I've never been happy with the B string on any 5 string I've owned and I've heard the SB5000 is great in that regard. My priority is more on amps right now though.

I'm losing my mind over buying a new amp. If I had already sold my SVT-CL, I think I would be a little more laid back about just buying something new and returning it if I didn't like it. I'm getting to the point where I think I'm going to stop shopping around for good used prices and just buy something new. So at least I have that option, as nervous as it makes me to buy something for full price without being able to play it first. Which is my only option, since none of the stores within 2-3 hours drive from here have any of the amps I want to try in stock.

That's a coincidence, my wife and I almost moved to Virginia a few years ago too.

For cabs I'm using an Ampeg 810e and a 410HLF. My main amp is my Traynor YBA-1, but it's a one trick pony, so I can't use it for everything. The SVT-CL has a lot more headroom than the Traynor and I end up just using pedals when I want dirt out of it. For 80 lbs, I figured I would just get a newer solid state or hyrbid microhead (or at least something in the 25 lbs or less and 500 watts or more category). I used to have an LMII, which always sounded too scooped for my taste, and an 800RB. Which sounded fine, I just figured I could cop that tone for way less weight if I really wanted to, so it went. Right now I'm looking at the Genz-Benz Shuttle and Streamliner series, the GK MB series, the Mesa Carbines and the Ampeg 7PRO. I've read about every thread on all of them, hunted down every sound clip, watched every review video. I even made a spread sheet comparing weight, power rating, features and price. I'm also considering reliability, customer service of the manufacturers and resale value. The latter of which I hate debating on purchases, but if I can't try anything first, gotta consider it. A big factor is which brands have worked out the pesky thermal shut down issues best as well.

So I'm not particularly concerned with getting something that sounds like a cranked tube amp, that seems to be the focus of a lot of conversation on microheads. I just want something that's appropriately loud and punchy with a little growl for rock music, while being portable enough that I can keep it at home and toss it in a gig bag or light case when I want to go jam/gig or do some session work. If I want a lot of dirt I can use a pedal, I don't even crank my tube amps way up to get distortion. I used to use the DOD 250 for that with my previous solid state heads.
