Stoner/Doom Bassist Thread Part 8 - Insert witty title...

Well here you guys go. A couple tracks from the other day. This was our first time playing as a full band with this vocalist. I'm not super thrilled about the vocals. We were turned up pretty loud and he was having trouble hearing himself, so I think he might have been singing harder than intended. It is kind of punk/hardcore sounding I think. Next practice we'll turn down some and see how it goes. I'd like to know what you guys think.

First half of the last track is brainstorming. Skip to like 4:30 for the song. Too bad we had a really bad take on this one, but apparently we didn't record the good takes. The last riff is super heavy when it all comes together.

I can see the vocals, in their current shouted/sung style being pretty cool live when he's pushing it and getting into it, but on recording i might not be such a fan. I'd personally go for more of a yell than a sing mix...that's just me though.

Cool jams though.

Sounds awesome dude, love those riffs, the vocals will probably get tighter with time, gives me a serious lemmy vibe. Ill be posting some track soon with my new band sign of the beefcarver.

I'm thinking about putting active pickups on my fender jazz and I was looking for a few recommendations.

Don't put active pickups in. That is my recomendation.:)
If you really want to you can leave the pick ups and just put in a preamp (audere and J retro seem to be popular). I went with an outboard sadowsky preamp a few years ago. It sounded good with my clean tone but did strange things with effects so it didn't survive.

so ive avoided it so far... but I may just have to start a soundcloud and post up some recordings we did recently at a jam for you guys to hear.. this isnt Nagato, but a side project with the guitarist, a young drummer we know and myself. Its all instrumental, and everything we did was just spontaneous, unrehearsed, unscripted, and Im really diggin some of it... the stuff Im not really really diggin, have ideas that could be worked into good stuff, but just wasnt first player wonders.... Ill see if I can get em up this weekend.

plus its all done with the new bassman 100t, so you guys can dig on the tone of that lil monster.

(Judge Smails voice) Well? We're waiting!!:bassist:

Thanks for the good words on the tracks guys. The vocals actually grew on me a bit. He said that he can definitely sing differently and try a few things out. I still think he'll be a good fit, plus he is an awesome guy who I've already become friends with and I have no interest in auditioning more people from craigslist.

Your personal preference for 6-string, down-tuned guitars, you like(and maybe an insight as to why you prefer it):
A.) 4-string bass tuned like the guitars
-OR-
B.)5-string bass tuned BEADG

I have never been a big fan of 5 string basses. I've owned 2 5 stringers and 1 4 string tuned BEAD and preferred the 4 string. Even once I forced myself to play 5 for awhile and got decent at it, I still just enjoy 4 strings. It's a personal preference really.

All but Track 1 on my soundcloud is in drop C, and I'm using a Roadster with a pretty small neck (think rickenbacker) with Medium Light Chromes but with a proper setup the feel is fantastic. I'm pretty sure with some adjustments I could even set it up BEAD with some heavier strings without having to file the nut for the bottom 4 of a 5 pack.

ok suckas....

IJN by Sri Monke on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

here are two tracks that actually are one long track, first half fades out then the second movement is the 2nd track...

these are live and unrehearsed... first time we even played em... These are ideas that will be worked, but I still dig em as is...

This isnt Nagato, but a new project that for now is IJN. Its me and the guitarisr from Nagato with a drummer that has only ever played metalcore....who'da thunk?!

The bass amp is the Bassman 100t thru a 215...

laz.. I could only listen to yours on my phone/headphones... I couldnt hear you on it... I need to listen thru a better setup to give a proper review.
