Found a sweet spot with the SVT tonight. Channel 1 bass at 10 o'clock, mids (220Hz) at 2, treble at 11 volume at 10. Channel 2, bass at 3 o'clock, treble at 12 and volume at 12. Had the Ric and it sounded great, the Dark Driving worked really well with this setup too.

Well here you guys go. A couple tracks from the other day. This was our first time playing as a full band with this vocalist. I'm not super thrilled about the vocals. We were turned up pretty loud and he was having trouble hearing himself, so I think he might have been singing harder than intended. It is kind of punk/hardcore sounding I think. Next practice we'll turn down some and see how it goes. I'd like to know what you guys think.

First half of the last track is brainstorming. Skip to like 4:30 for the song. Too bad we had a really bad take on this one, but apparently we didn't record the good takes. The last riff is super heavy when it all comes together.

sounds good Laz. What does your band include. You, obviously on bass, guitar, drums and this new singer, I couldn't tell if there was another guitar in the under all your tonal awesomeness.

We do have two guitarists. The one you're hearing the most just got a VT-22 212 Combo and also runs it out a Mesa 412 so he is loud as sin and his Mesa was right in front of the mic. All the effects and stuff, as well as some of the solo noodling is the other. The guitar harmonies in the recordings are kind of hard to hear because the crunch coming out of the Mesa is dominating everything else coming into the mic.

Thanks guys. What do you think about the vocals? I think his style is good for the heavy parts but he could try something different on other parts. One guitarist isn't a fan, the other guitarist thinks he sounds great. It is hard to be objective when listening to your own stuff.

If its too loud in there then it's hard for him to explore dynamics. Even though the music does have dynamics for him it's all just loud. Give him time and adjust your mix.

The one guitarist has a friend/relative who has a recording studio and will record us for free. Once we get some more tracks and everything ironed out pretty well I'm sure we'll have some good recordings soon. I must say though, these recordings sound great for just having a little Zoom H4N sitting in the middle of a tiny room.

Agreed.

I definitely hear the "hardcore" style you're talking about. I think it would sound better if he got a bit more croony on the soft parts, but that's the kind of stylistic decision that's hard to try out sometimes, especially on the fly.

I'd just give your feedback to the singer and ask him what he's thinking. Judging by the style in the second song, I'd guess that's just kind of where his comfort zone is.
