Those old Sunns are actually pretty efficient cabs. Heavy, bulky, unwieldy things, but loud as hell.

but then you'd need a teeny tiny 10W amp so that you don't blow away the rest of the band...and that ain't doom .

Nah, the guitarist would just have to keep up. Though it does seem that when I use my big cab, I tend to be the loudest part of the band. Oh well.

You guys help move other bands gear? I'll help them get it directly off the stage, but that's it. I don't want someone else touching my stuff either. If they can't handle it, that's their fault. I gig with two ampeg stacks, and I handle it just fine by myself.

I help if I know them from before, or even if I just met them at the show, I'll ask if they need help and then if they do, I'll help them lift stuff. Mainly cabs.

Out of curiosity, do you guys still go out to the PA system when you bring your big the megawatt amps and speaker cabs?

Depends on the venue for me. With the doom bands, I've so far not gone through the PA at all. With my folk/rock band I do go through the PA even though I sometimes use the same rig.

But I don't have a megawatt amp, it's not even a piddly 200 watts.

yes, its called being friendly. if they dont want help i wont push it, but its all part of being cool to people at shows. if i played a show with anyone from this thread id gladly offer to carry any piece of equipment they asked.

people can touch my gear all they want, theyre not china dolls, theyre amps and cabs lol.

It's not like my amp and cab are so sparkly that someone's going to mess them up by touching them. And my bass goes in a case, so no big deal there, either. I'm always pretty glad to get help with my cab. I love it, but it's a pain in the ass getting on and off stage, even though I can do it quickly.

I've been getting frustrated with my white ric lately. Their is this honk I can't eq out and I don't like the way it sounds.

You should send that white ric to me. I'll... um... try to get the honk out... well, okay, no I won't, I love honk. And white rics.

I'm always conflicted with my Ric too (we have the same color combo) I love the way it plays, but I'm never quite happy with the tone. Especially if I play it back to back with one of my other basses. I really only like it when I use it with a fuzz pedal.

Again, send it to me and you'll no longer have to put up with the tone.

This my exact thought. Every time I get ready to sell it, I stop. But really I just don't like how it sounds when it comes down to it.

I have sentimental attachement to it, as when I first started playing my dream bass was a Ric, and then I bought mine when I grauduated college. But after the honeymood period was over, I've been struggling with the tone ever since.

If the neck didn't play so great it would be an easier call, but it really does feel fantastic.

Is the cap bypassed on the bridge pickup?

I'm taking a Popular Culture course in college. Very heavy, theoretical stuff.

So now I have academic justification to be an elitist snob who believes on subcultures are authentic cultures.

Less friends for me. But the music is good= I win!

I'm actually pretty tolerant these days as far as music goes. I view it as like food. I don't understand my sister's taste in food, never will. No matter how well they're cooked, I'm just never going to like artichokes or brussels sprouts.

However, sometimes when someone posts something that's just stupid (like a Chimaira riff being the heaviest ever or some other such ********), I sigh inside.

Same when someone says "Oh, I like all kinds of music," because usually they're only aware of a narrow slice of the music that exists.

hahahaha the reminds me of when we used to discuss building the circle of doom, a 20ft diameter circle floor to ceiling with sunn amps with like 8 people playing guitar/bass and three drummers. My old band (back when i played drums) could have supplied half of what was needed between just two people.

i always wanted to do a show with you guys when you had this rig setup. but i was told you didnt use this at every show (unacceptable!) haha.
