I always put delay as far along in the chain as possible. In an effects loop, preferably, but at the very least after any dirt pedals. With modulation right before, if I have any. Same goes for guitar for me too.

I owned a delay pedal for like a day. I was like well this is cool, but when the hell would I use this?

Maybe if I was in a one guitar band. With Supervoid's style there's just no room for delay on bass. I can think of maybe one or two places, but I'd rather let my guitarists go to town and do their thing instead.

That's what I've always done as well but wanted to experiment. I completely agree its way less muddy.

This is what I've always done as well, the only thing I put after it is reverb, as with verb before delay the repeats can get lost real easy. My guitarist does it that way but he has his stuff set up to be an oscillating wall of noise for doing rapid fire lead lines.

Yeah, +1 for reverb after delay. I don't have occasion to use both on my pedalboard very often, but that's how I do it when mixing. It can be good to mix these kinds of orders up if you're going for weird, oscillating craziness. That's the kind of thing I would keep in a loop and just switch on and off though.

I was just pondering that question last night. I swapped my Nova Repeater in the spot where I had my Danelectro, and thought what comes first, delay or reverb. Also guys that have both phaser and chorus, which do you put first?

I used to be like that till I ended up with a good friend who does that with his holier than thou liberal views on everything, and I am pretty liberal, he just lives for telling others how they should be, and I thought do I sound that much of a dick when I bash people's taste in music, so I have been easing off lol

i want a delay but i honestly have no need for it other than to make noise. ill snag one eventually but i dont wanna just be throwing it on at the end of songs in big holes. my guitarist uses so much too that i wouldnt wanna step on his, and he runs his in stereo, so we'd essentially have delays tripping all over each other lol.

2x18s FTW!!!

Dunwich, do you have any recommendations For digital multimeters? I'm going to eventually need to pick one up for diesel. Is there really a need to go out and get the best? A couple guys in my class are buying $400 Flukes, we also use Flukes at school, but that just seems crazy, just like going full on Snap-on stuff before you even get a diesel job.

I need to stop spending money on musical equipment and start saving for tools...


Tried delay on my bass rig, always just got mud. Love it on guitar, run it on its own channel on my Peavey PA with the reverb cranked. Magical washiness.

Using my sunn preamp on my guitar rig now that I have the 220. Works so much better as a guitar pedal than bass.

Ha ha, so true. The only thing that really bothers me is when people seem to really dig pop music. I thank goodness I am not like that but wonder how do can they even tolerate that nonsense, and what makes people so different. There are lots of styles of music and I'll give just about any style credit when they are serious about doing it right but pop music just makes me angry

Well, I AM a hateful little wretch, so I really can't stop myself. Although, in my own defense, it's usually more in a jesting fashion than flat-out dickitude.
