Stoner/Doom Bassists 53: Loud Noises

Yeah I was just thinking how the hell did Jack Bruce get it to sound so good. And his tone is a big reason I always try those SGs at GC. Yeah I do dig the Fenderbirds, and see some cool custom stuff on the classifieds show up occassionally. Probably the best bet is to grab an Epi TB and an Epi Les Paul and see if I can get used to the shape, since they have the same pickups, although the Epi TB is different body wood. If I dig them then can put the pennies away for the real deals. Doing something custom sounds fun but then you could put it all together and still come up short on the tone.

Well, for one, Jack Bruce swapped in another mudbucker in the bridge pickup position.

I might have to snap one up...always loved the old 400+ amps...The Strategy interests me on a number of levels...the mid shapes are very cool and cover a lot of different ground...it can be run at 465, 250 or 125 watts and is fairly light for what it is...the 9 band graphic is really helpful for loud upright stuff and the eq points are really close to ideal for what I'm looking for. I got offered an endorsement, which is helpful, but Mesa endorsements aint ever free...still seems worth a shot. It's crazy powerful and lands somewhere between a 400+ and an SVT2 non Pro, which are two of my all time favorite amps

Yeah, while I love my D-180, I do not find its EQ section particularly useful. The M6/M9 EQ is much more what I'd like in a bass preamp.

I don't have much money right now, though, so I'll be sticking with the D-180 for the time being. Plus it's so easy to get ridiculously dirty tones from it.

just gotta be careful with those power level swaps. I assume your pulling pairs of tubes. The issue with this is that the output impedance taps all double for 1 pair pulled, then triple if 2 pairs are pulled ect ect

Every time you post pictures of this bass I get the urge to finally buy a jazz. I love the color and matching head stock,it just looks classy!( When I bought my new Bass VI I HAD to get the candy apple red with matching headstock.)

It was my birthday today:hyper: I spent the afternoon brewing a small batch of beer with my buddy for the first time.....and drinking some beer...and just having some much needed dude time. Then I came home to my family and ate some ice cream cake. Going to see the remake of Evil Dead tomorrow (I managed to sneak it in as a b-day gift). I hope it`s good because I`m a huge fan of Evil Dead/Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness.

Thanks to my fellow doomers who sent birthday wishes over on facebook!

Also re-did the for our guitarist last night. He switched from his 88' small box rat to my old 91' big box (with led and bass adjust by fx doctor). But it required some rearranging to make it work right.

He's tuned as low as a bass, so it's still pretty relevant.
