One of my many dream basses.
I always wondered why Gibson never thought of this, and just kept the pickups in the standard positions.
Kawai, you are gonna convince me to build a custom Warmoth bass that I will love and have zero resale value in the bass market, lol. I always feel bad for the guys int he classifieds who have to sell that custom bass they dumped their heart and money in to and have to sell it for a half they paid or less, although the flipside is someone is getting a heck of a bargain
I know I love the look, of SGs, I mean love that look, but Gibson put your best pups on the damn thing and it the right damn spot already. I always grab them and plug them in at GC hoping to fool myself one day and think yep it sounds good Joe, buy it. That stupid little mini humbucker way back by the bridge, just like my damn Fackenbacker, and then that damn mudbucker right next to the neck, argh, might as well just throw a blanket over your speakers. You either have harsh treble annoyance, or hiphop bass with no clarity mud, or a disgusting blend of the two. Hard to believe some company didn't make a clone with the pups int he right spot. At least my fackenbacker got the neck pup right and that is where the pickup selector will stay lol
Agreed on all accounts except Jack Bruce gives one potential flaw, he makes them sound like a dream.
Ever think about a Fenderbird? You could probably get a P neck on it if you neck some chunk. But thunderbird basses are a unique beast. Many people want to duplicate it. Schecter, LTD/ESP, etc...
haha, I make easy **** difficult, that's why. I got it on Monday and still haven't played through it properly.
Picked it up and on my way home realized I didn't have a speakon cable to use it. So, I blitzed over to GC to pick one up. Got home only to remember my home amp doesn't have speakon. It was already to late for me to go to my practice space to pick up my SVT, so missed playing it on Monday...
Went out of town Tuesday/Wednesday for work...Finally got to play it Wednesday evening and had my Peavey T40 running into my SVT. This is where I got into my "GHS boomers are the shvttiest shvt on the planet!" rant - There was just no real listenable tone coming from by low strings.
Long story still long, but not exhausting - I haven't been able to restring the T40, or bring my Fender over there to test it. We have a show on Sunday, so I best get my ass over to the practice space this afternoon to blast it.
See? simple things made stupid difficult.
Yeah I was just thinking how the hell did Jack Bruce get it to sound so good. And his tone is a big reason I always try those SGs at GC. Yeah I do dig the Fenderbirds, and see some cool custom stuff on the classifieds show up occassionally. Probably the best bet is to grab an Epi TB and an Epi Les Paul and see if I can get used to the shape, since they have the same pickups, although the Epi TB is different body wood. If I dig them then can put the pennies away for the real deals. Doing something custom sounds fun but then you could put it all together and still come up short on the tone.
Good prac yesterday, weve been trying to finish a couple recent new songs so we can play one of them on the 12th. Well we have 3 to decide from. Which means, so far we have enough material for a double LP debut, which we are seriously considering.
No need for an octave pedal, EHX mole does what i want, extra bass boost for super massive riffs.

The nice thing about Speakons is that they are self serviceable with just a screw driver. Find a 1/4" speaker cable, chop an end, and attach a speakon. Also there is no juju in expensive speaker cables. I just went and bought some ends and some bulk cable, made my own.
So, I got in contact with my old singer, looking to get back my old Hamer Cruise Bass that I sold to her son. I have absolutely no need for it, but I just keep reminiscing for it. My first ever gig was on that bass. I might have to sneak it by She Who Will Not Approve.
I am updateing my previous post to Dirty, Dirty Sexy, I guess the towels are for when you blow your load eyeballing them, lol. I really hope you aren't doing the old magic trick where you pull the table clothe off the table and all the glass and dishes remain on the table.
i use them so i dont mar the **** out of the finished, either from the wood runner on the bottom of the cab or the fact that i am often putting metal chassis on the top and not finished headshells
Oh man, I got way behind on the thread yesterday. Out of the office half the day, slammed with a migraine the other half of the day and then CM practice all night. Not a terrible practice though, we're starting to power through towards acting like a real band. My Drake Custom was out of commission the last month or so (I broke the jack in a bonehead move) and I got to use it last night and it was sounding killer in the mix.

I'm interested to hear your impressions of those new Mesa amps Mark.
The cab is looking good Tyler. It came out as uneven as any wood does, doesn't look like any left over paint in the grain popped out. I know what you mean about the color showing up way lighter on camera. I just did a stain/weathering test on something recently and it's dark walnut in person, but that golden oak color when I took pictures of it in the sun.
I like everyone's custom builds/orders, looking forward to the pics and clips

I was excited last night, Netflix instant had the first two seasons now. And me and the little guy voted his Momma 2 two 1 that Ventur Brothers counts as a family show ha ha. Even if Brock does a lot of womanizing lol
