Morning: I'll admit, I'm curious to hear the new Sabbath, though I'm somewhat expecting to be disappointed mostly by the vocals... either in Cheese Factor, or due to Execution. Unfortunately, I have even less hope for a live experience, but may find myself going anyway.
Jammed with a buddy / ex bandmate of mine Tuesday, he called me last night and offered for me to come join he and the drummer he's been playing with. Said they had roughly 5 songs together, and he tends to be a riff machine. May be promising, I'm waiting to hear some clips.
Made some substantial progress on the 810 yesterday... Finally got to rub some stain into it and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I'm thinking I'll probably just do 1 coat to keep the grain visible. I did find and use a minwax pre-treatment to help get a more uniform color. Not too sure how it would have come out without it, but I like the results. I think the walnut hid some of the blemishes perfectly just as I had hoped.
Gotta get this done, so I can sell my 410 and buy Ron's Ric!

Hypnos 69 is ****ing amazing. Check out the album Legacy. Sort of sounds like floyd vs king crimson.
It looks rad, but reminds me of golden oak more than walnut. I have my rack stained walnut and it's almost black. Real dark brown.

I'm thinking another coat will make the grain less pronounced. It does look lighter on the screen than it in person.

I am huge fan of the tone of Gibson/Epiphone Thunderbird and Les Paul basses but am wondering if you all know of any other basses with a similar tone. I played a two pickup older model Warwick Streamer Standard that was in that classic rock tone ball park and enjoyed the more basslike shape of the Warwick. I will probably bite the bullet and pick up a TB or LP and just get used to feel of the shapes jsut to get the tone, already love the looks of course, but someone might jump in and say no get this bass is sounds close.

I had an old Hamer CruiseBass, all mahogany, if you dropped in some humbuckers, I bet it would sound really close.
I could dig it! It would probably sound a lot like MONOBROW.

Ha ha, funny you mentioned them, I had both the Victory Standard and The Victory Artist series, sold them both this year, tone monsters for sure, they were maple though and weighed a ton. The standard did the Fender Pbass deal, the Artist had it's one vibe, both different than the TB pickup tone I jones for. They were classic rock for sure just something special about that TB tone to me, every time I diddle one of them at GC they make my ears smile. Yeah that is a good idea, slap those pups in a Mahagony body, slap a Warmoth mahogony neck on it, probably be in that tone realm.
+1 I read that and though how cool to have that variable wattage but my mind went right to, too bad they cost so much. Like with cars, Volvo, Acura, Lexus, etc, all I can say is She's a beaut Clark, as I jump in my 2001 Chevy Tracker with 130,000 miles.
