Stoner/Doom Bassists #65: Wasted Under the Brim

Yeah sounds a bit Nazi-ish, but not many countries are left with their true races either, so that Nationalism and Racism is a fine line, and Europe seems to have their hand full of radical Islamist after all the immigrant workers, so fear of the unknown can get in their too. Maybe Rodney King can give his speech to them sometime, can't we

Oh it is similar but still different. Perhaps more extreme in some ways. He was on that really big US racist label, I can't think of the name right now, and they kicked him off because he was too extreme for them.

Yeah I just wonder what knowledge was lost and hid by the Catholic church througout history.

Yes, but how much was also preserved? Various monks preserved vast amounts of information that would have been lost otherwise. What I think we all don't realize is how brutal the past was. My guitarist was telling me about an article he just read that archaeologists are now estimating from grave sites they have found that somewhere around 75% of all people in pre-middle aged time died from violent deaths. The Catholic Church committed some horrible atrocities from our point of view but in comparison to what came before it was the picture of enlightenment. Too bad it won't fade away now that it has outlived its usefulness.

Sounds like another crazy conspiracy theory.

Of course, and such is the tradition of nationalsocialism.

Did you know that during wwII, Heinrich Himmler tried to launch the theory that the "aryan race" were decendants of aliens who had crashlanded in the Arctic? He even travelled there with a mock team of scientists to gather "evidence"!

Even Hitler himself was like "Heinrich, dude... Come on!" :D

Man I know a local Game Warden and he sits on the interview process of new hires and they have to do a lie detector test, he says you won't believe what you hear people fess up to without even being asked once they get nerevous in front of the lie detector. He said they have guys that said after they killed a deer they would ahve sex with it, he said you can"t even beleive you are hearing them say it at the time, and he said these are the top pics going through the last stages with no criminal records at all, these people are walking the streets, lol, though I guess you are safe unless a deer and a dead deer at that, lol

It is kind of astounding how Nazism ever happened. For instance, Mein Kampfe was actually two books and when the first version came out the Nazis did everything they could to distance themselves from Hitler because they thought he was crazy.

Finally got some time the the '66 last night.

Before I get too far into it, my phone still won't let me upload a picture for whatever reason, probably skynet or the daleks I don't know. Either way I suck, it's cool, I'll get a pic up eventually.

Now for the important stuff....

The cab is awesome, it really is capable of being stupid loud, and the low end....well I didn't realize what I was missing until I heard it.

I started out practice last night just running my Sunn 1200s straight into the cab. Started flat and took on EQing from there. I got it sounding about right, but I kept getting this awful tearing distortion sound. I tried a bunch of different things but it just kept happening. I thought the worst and that somehow the drivers got messed up in shipping. Unplugged the amp switched back to my NV610 for a song or two.

Then not content that everything was messed up, I bypassed the power amp on my Sunn and used it's preamp to drive my Carvin power amp (DCM3800L). Thanks to the clipping meters on the power amp I was able to set my sunn accordingly, and viola that horrible clipping sound was gone. Turns out I was driving the sunn to that dreaded SS clipping....something I've never done in all my years with it.

So now that I had the preamp setup properly, I finally could give the cab a test to see what it could do. Started with the power amp in stereo just using the A channel into the '66 (1150watts @4ohms) Started at about half power, and just kept notching it up as we played. Before I knew it I had the volume dimed and the cab didn't even seems to care, in fact it was taunting me to stop messing around and throw some real power at it.

Then I switched to bridged mode (3800 watts @ 4ohms). The cab just kept going, the more I turned up the bigger everything sounded. It's hard to explain, I could hear and feel every note but it was all so clear and heavy, even on the higher strings. \

I still need to do a lot more playing with it, especially considering I spent half the night trying to diagnose a problem that was coming from my amp and not the cab. It's outperforming my berg in almost every way. The berg still has this low-mid punch pressure that I haven't gotten the '66 to recreate...yet. I'm sure it's possible to get it, but I only got to tweak for about 30/40 minutes once I finally solved the clipping problem.

This is all too long already, but last thing. My delay has never sounded better. I thought my delay sounded great before, but wow, just wow. It took all the best parts of the 104M but made them clearier and punchier...like even the repeats of my feedback would vibrate things in the room. I don't know how to explain it, I wasn't aware that I wasn't getting the most out of the pedal...but now just so much more detail to everything but not in a sterile way, just a perfect way....

Yeah I read about that, crazy stuff.

Congrats on the cab.

Did you get a tweeter? How was it set?

New Cab Congrats!

Congrats on the cab.

Did you get a tweeter? How was it set?

I do have the tweeter/horn on the cab, I messed around with it, and really even with it on the cab sounded great, never brittle or harsh (unlike every other tweeter I've ever heard). I don't have a ton of high end in my signal so I ended up turning the tweeter down/off while messing around. It added some top end clarity, but for what I am doing, it's really necessary, however I might end up dialing more of it in down the line once I get everything dialed in more.

Sounds awesome Ron. It's awesome knowing the audience can hear every note you play in the upper register. Also means you can't **** up or else everyone will notice :D

Yeah, I might have to reconsider this, I can't hide under the wall of low end rumbling anymore...I might actually have to start playing real parts again.

To an extent. His belief system is confusing because he refers to all Christians, Muslims, and Jews as Jews because they are all religions with their basis in Judaism and not from Norway. He also has espoused a lot of racial separation ideology stating that each race is supposed to stay where they are from. In the end, to me it just sounds like someone trying to justify racism.

True but those three religions have alot in common, although IMO Judaism has the least to atone for. They don't work as hard to recruit as the other two, which is where they go wrong every time.
Historically Judaism is a racist religion it is the faith of"gods chosen people." Dogma like that tends to rub people the wrong way.
Racial separation is stupid, no two ways about it. Anybody with a background in science will tell you limiting your breeding pool that much does more harm than good.

i would bet money this is the problem i was having with the one i bought and sold. im more confused as to how you had never had that problem before until you switched to a new cab.

but it definitely sounded horrid haha, enough for me to claim it was broken and send it back.

Apparently, he also believes that we Europeans are not homo Sapiens, but decendants of Neanderthals... :D

I expect most of us are descendants of whatever didn't move fast enough. People will Dick anything

Yeah, I thought about that after I realized it was what was happening. I never had to turn the Sunn up louder than I had it last night (my normal volume is usually around 3 on the dial) I had it up to 5 last night, but yeah, really perplexing.
