Well, I've noticed that I tend to play in places that either aren't amazingly well ventilated, or are under some form of warm lighting.

Depends on what I'm doing.

For my folk/rock I don't use my head's (Mesa D-180) graphic EQ, and just run what's closest to flat on a fender tone stack (bass and treble at about 2, mids at 10), but often with the bass boosted a little bit and sometimes the treble cut to like 1 to take a bit of the zing out.

For my black metal stuff, I have the middiest mid sections of the graphic EQ boosted way high, which also increases the overdrive for some reason, but with everyone it sounds cool, so not complaining. I have the mids lower than that and higher than that also boosted a bit. It's super obnoxious but it really fills things out and sounds massive when the guitars are playing. I usually don't have the bass boosted quite as much as with the folk/rock group.

In both cases, I use just the neck pickup for quieter sections of songs, and just the bridge pickup for loud sections. So, most of the time, just the bridge pickup. Tone and volume at full, of course. I'm not a big believer in subtlety.

For doom, I use my Peavey, which has a ric pickup hacked into it (used to be a P-bass copy, now sounds somewhere between a P-bass and a ric), and have the same amp settings as my black metal stuff, but with more bass boost.

I dunno how useful that is, it's kind of a really specific sort of tone with a pretty weird amp.

Stoner Doomers,I need some advice
I have about $80 kickin around,and I'm keen to spend it on something groovey before it goes up against the wall in beer.
So,I've narrowed it down to 3 choices:
-Small Stone Phaser
-Ampeg Scrambler kit from BYOC.I'll be finishing high school really soon and this could be a cool summer project
-Doom metal records

So,you're in my shoes,what do you do?

Nod inducing, very cool! I was just talking to someone about the bass on that song. Really dig it. Ill have to fire up the bong and listen again when I get home.

Morning, fellas. Coffee's good and strong this morning.

I've been having problems with my power amp overheating, seems it's ratings were very exaggerated. It keeps going into thermal protection mode and shutting down. So I'm going to return and get a 1000W class D power amp instead. That should avoid any overheating problems.

You guys with 7pros or other hybrid w/ class D power sections: Any discernible difference in tone? Are you satisfied with class D power? Other thoughts or comments?

My 7 Pro is one of the best amps I've ever owned. I bought it as a back up to my VR and ended up selling the VR I liked it so much. It is definitely the loudest amp I've ever owned and I think it sounds great. The EQ is really responsive, built in compressor is nice, and master volume increases volume all the way to dimed unlike some amps that basically hit their limit once the master is at a certain point.

Only downside, IMO, would be the glaring reliability issues that have been reported on TB. I apparently got one of the good ones, as I've run it hard for hours at a time many times.

If you like the Ampeg tone you'll likely dig it. If not, the GB STM is also a killer amp.
