Gah, Fedex just didn't deliver my new amp. Normally they'll just drop stuff off at the apartment office, but it looks like they didn't do that. Hate Fedex.

Agreed!
P.S. I have so many circuit design ideas but no f'n direction. Someone tell me what they want.
Points for originality.
Best idea gets built. (No guarantee that you'll like it though).
I think that the Behringer BDI21 gets you there. It truely is the best $30 you can spend on bass specific gear, IMO, YMMV.
Are you looking for soundclips to try and stump the masses?

the boards exist still on my computer. I would probably need to do a prototype which means someone or somebody would have to pony up the $85 cost for proto pcbs for the first unit. I was also still figuring out how best to incorporate the mid control into the circuit. Making it switchable between stock and the modded mid setup.

Just start building it and selling off what doesnt satisfy you. Thats what i did with most of the gear I have built
I'll pm you when I get some spare change.![]()
That's a decent idea. I'm not trying to start a real business so I won't put my name on anything I'm not in love with.
Plus I've had 10x more designs than finished projects so I'm still working out the building part. I can solder just fine but metal work and layout are still problematic. As with most builders, the early work is quite embarrasing. I'm still in my Blue Period.
let me know
the general idea with the clones was to add a mid control which could be switched into the circuit to allow for a real mid range control and also have it be stock if need be.
here was my graphic idea for the pedal

SICK!!

Did I hear starved plate tube approximation of an MXR Distortion +?
Not sure yet. There is no hard rules. I just though it would be funny/cool if a Metal Zone and BDI21 could be a B3K killer.
No love for this idea? Don't let starved plate fool you. It's not abuse it's just a state of being.
Fess Higgins: This whole thing, it.... it is embarrassing. My father's right again, I guess. He'd have to bring you here...
Inara: Your father isn't right, Fess. It's not embarrassing to be a virgin. It's simply one state of being. As far as bringing me here, companions choose the people they are to be with very carefully. For example, if your father had asked me to come here for him, I wouldn't have.
F. Higgins: Really?
Inara: Really, Fess. You're different from him. The more you accept that, the stronger you'll become.

To Quote my favorite show:
"Fess Higgins: This whole thing, it.... it is embarrassing. My father's right again, I guess. He'd have to bring you here...

The sooner you realize the power of starved plate operation the stronger you'll become.
i dont like starved tube designs in general and tube pedals are money sinks. I wouldnt recommend running it without dedicated heater supply and then yea maybe a 40-60V supply.
that means you need a 6.3V @ 300mA or 12.15V @ 150 mA supply whether it be DC or AC. Then another supply at 60V. All of it can be unregulated but you will need a toroid PT supply to handle this
PRAISE JAYNE COBB! HERO OF CANTON!
Tubes are good clean and easily calculable gain stages. You don't need more voltage than the clean gain that you want. I don't need a 60V P-P output swing. 24-48 volts is safe and plenty loud.
a 60V rail wont get you 60V swing of course but operating a 12ax7 at very low plate voltages does not get the tubey sound IMO. You can always restrict the output swing using resistive dividers of course.
If you dig the starved plate you should build it, and prove me wrong.
I never really understood the appeal of Firefly. I like Whedon's other shows, and Firefly was okay, but it was pretty campy (and not in the good way) from what I remember. I liked Dollhouse a whole lot more.
