Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part 11 - "Bath Time"

Dude... I know. It was horrifying. When my guitar player got to my house, he fell on the floor laughing.
The New BR line is awesome. I play some 15's. Can't comment on the 8-10" though. With having a port I imagine that the Carvin would have more low end presence and be very tonally even across the board, but I haven't seen any charts.
The Ampeg of course will have the mid bump that Ampeg is known for. Bottom line, you could get usable tones, but not Ampeg tones. I actually saw a rock and roll band from Denver called Grease Machine. Bass player used an older, "red eye" Carvin 8-10". But, they sounded good. Nice bass presence cutting through twin halfstack guitars.

Since I'm getting a 7Pro, I think evening out the mid hump with a non ampeg cab is a good idea, making for a more smooth tone.
At $679 for an 8-10" you really can't go wrong.
Only thing I will say bad about Carvin is this. The tolex is very cheap. I tore a piece the first day and I am usually careful with my stuff. If you buy it, it would be worth getting a cover if you plan to move it around alot.

Geez guys, went to a Dr's appointment, missed 2 pages of activity.
I heard that the fEARfuls seemed to be strong in the bass, but NOT boomy. I wonder if those Avatars are built slightly different than spec? From reading the "What are the disadvantages of fEARfuls" thread, people said they naturally reproduced a heavy low bass, and actually reproduced every frequency pretty accurately (when properly build to spec and dampened) and that it is one of those cabs where your amp's EQ is represented in your speakers the way your amp works.
One of Toastfuzz's classic tones is the deep dubby bass tone with a touch of delay to get a clear bathroom-esque chorus sound. Listen to Sublime's "Lets go get stoned" when it hits the verse for an example. I'm hoping that the fEARfuls will nail a super deep (yet CLEAR and DEFINED) bass tone, and not mud out with the delay present. As far as fuzz and overdrive, thats why I have a Grey Stache with a midrange knob! I've always loved the VT Bass and I'm liking my tone VT Bass -> Carvin as much as VT Bass -> Ampeg SVT3Pro, and its easier to dial in my tone with the Carvin (it conflicted with the 3Pro too much.) The only quality I liked in the 3Pro was the compression.
So, I hope that using VT Bass as the toneshaper, Carvin B800 as amp and final EQ, and fEARful cabs will be my sound, in a package I prefer. Hoping I don't need a compressor but you never know, I'd need someone more experienced to identify that need for me. If the Rusty Box has more baked-in compression I may try switching that for the VT. And as always, if the Carvin EQ doesn't fit the bill, I'll try the SVT 3Pro as well. But hopin that when its all said and done, my rig will be far upgraded from where its at now, and if I dump all my old unused equipment (everything but pedals, Carvin, and new cabs) I'll make back all the $$ I spent.
So... anybody around Pburgh need some 4x10's?

Oh, and for yer guys' sake, once I complete the fEARfuls I'll have Laz test drive em for you, through his SVT7 and Bluebeard, so you can get a bias-free traditional doom review. The 12/6's tone should mimic the 15/6's, just with less max volume. He's had those Earcandy's, and soon the Dually, so we'll have a nice lab of experimentation materials.

This is one of the reasons I watch TV. This show is amongst a handful of shows I watch on the regular.
GoT = badassery and lyrical inspiration. Plus my wife likes it too.

The only shows I really watch live/as soon as a new episode comes out are Game of Thrones, South Park, and Celebrity Apprentice. I usually hate reality shows but something about Celebrity Apprentice draws me in. I guess it is getting to see celebrities in probably what is the closest to their "true form" you'll ever see. The two finalists of this season are Arsenio Hall and Clay Aiken, both who seem to be very interesting people.
As a fan of the books, I'm very pleased with Game of Thrones. It's as awesome on screen as I imagined it.

I used to love TV a little too much. I cancelled cable and never bothered to fix my antennae. My wife reads a ton and I’m starting to get back into it. I haven’t had it in over a year and I don’t really miss it. I do try to keep up with movies at least.
