Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part 11 - "Bath Time"

I wouldn't pay for cable TV if I wasn't a sports nut, hockey specifically.

Not having cable is awesome, you forget what stores exist, you aren't aware of new movies coming out, you don't know/care about Hollywood antics, and you're not constantly thinking you're sick with some rare disease because a pharmaceutical ad convinced you. I strictly use The Internet for my media consumption, and for the most part I get to choose what I consume.

Always happy though when someone reminds me there was a new episode of Game of Thrones though! Saving up and watching 3 weeks in a row feels like watching another LOTR movie.

I think it's so fast moving because I think of it as our little clubhouse. I try to talk to people in other threads, but they don't understand the tonal goals we have as bass players within this genre. As far as most people on TB are concerned, we play a bunch of over distorted noise. Most people here (TB) have goals of light, compact, and flavor of the week. I guess that's why we get sidetracked sometimes. But other than it moving fast, I have no other complaints with you guys. Also, there have been more lurkers posting than before, making it move a lil faster too.

Totally agree. Lightweight, hi fi, clear, etc. If it's not that, then it doesn't exist or is antiquated.

I had canceled it as well a couple of years ago. I could watch the Bruins online for free but definitely missed Sox games. Then my Comcast-installer roommate moved in and we got every channel for free, so that was the end of my no-cable days.

I didn't miss it, though, when I dropped it.

This is the only thread I keep open all day and hit refresh occasionally to see whats new. Theres a few other threads that are similar, and have similar "members" who are regulars.

I started lurking here originally to get into new doomy/stoner bands... was confused and amazed at the range in music, from QOTSA to Weedeater and everything in between. So I hit this thread to find more of what I did/didn't like (discovered that repetitious/droning doom isn't so much my bag, but bands like Weedeater and Electric Wizard are a more-chill version of the metal I used to listen to, while Kyuss / QOTSA type bands are like a gritty heavier progression from Hendrix / Zeppelin)

And, we (mostly) all share a love of a certain plant. And we're all gear nerds. And we all like distortion and fuzz whether "the song calls for it" or not. And theres really no fanboism that I can tell, in the "my gear is better than yours" sense of the word.

But being under the TB kingdom, discussion of flats and P basses is a necessity??? (I'm a hypocrit, my P is currently strung with Chromes :hiding:)
