Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I'm going to assume you guys don't watch football either.

I'll need to check all them out tomorrow on the 3 hour drive home. That bloodnstuff kit sounds very much like what I'm referring to.

I'd still want a whole kit, but I'm always disappointed by the lack of Tom use aside from the occasional down the toms fill. Nothing to do but talk or read at my parents as my stuffs all at my house. As a result I keep reading about heads and toms and tuning. Brant Bjork and his drumming is really hitting me, especially demon cleaner (which I read last night he was inspired by ginger to play that way).

Big low end deep tone.

So I'm thinking it's a no go, I don't have the time to be primary songwriter for everything the band does. I was hoping for a more organic back-and-forth collaboration in the jam room but it wasn't there. Yes, it was the first time that we'd met the guy and things could get better - but if I'm going to be met with blank stares and silence every time I'm looking for input then I don't think it's going to work. Andrew (drummer) can offer suggestions, but he only plays drums, no guitar or anything like that so it's tough for him to come up with riffs or song ideas.

I'm debating whether or not to give it another try with the dude, but I don't know...

Im not a songwriter either, riff here and there, but Im getting better. Guitarist and drummer of vega are primary riff writers and even in GH, the drummer(primarily a bassist by trade) is the primary riff writer, but I then take his riffs and make them my own. Only song ive ever completely written on my own is GHs Divine Sphere which is the song were doing for the split with Serpent Lung.

The last time I played in a band, both my band mates were far better than me. However i brought all but one riff/song to the table that wasn't a cover, as neither really wrote stuff. I'd start playing a riff, then the drummer would lock in and the guitarist would mimic me until he could jump off. From there being a shoe gaze/post rock influenced instrumental band it would spiral into 5-20 minute long jams around that one riff OR, at the time I played guitar a lot more, so we'd switch and I'd play guitar and the guitar player would just mimic me.

they reformed as a duo after I moved, and they managed to write one song to near entirety. They were clearly better than me, but I think there's a mentality of its not good enough or needs work that people need to get over. I'm still that way sometimes, then I realize it's better to have 5 meh songs you can practice and make better, then sitting on one great song you can't seem to find the absolute perfect chorus or ending too.

The guitarist in my first Black Metal band was the opposite, way too perfectionist for his and his band's own good. In the two years I played with him he only managed to finish 5 songs, but man, as much of an ******* he is, he made the best Black Metal I've ever played.

Oh man. Vietnamese Ampeg 610 just went up on local classifieds. Really cheap too at $700 AUD. If only I didn't have to pay my bosses back for my lost work keys. I just really want a 610, y'know?

How are the Vietnamese-era Ampeg cabs anyway? I'm not adverse to buying Asian-built gear, especially at this price, but are they significantly dodgier than other cabs?

Honestly, some of the asian built ampeg gear is better than the US made stuff. Depends on if the cab has the "dark years" drivers in it.

If blocking him would keep me from seeing new threads he creates, I would do that.

Still see his BS though. I wish there was a way to block me from seeing all of someones content, and a way to block specific people from seeing all of my content.
