Monster Magnet is still relevant?

I don't get people that rag on mainstream music or people that listen to mainstream music. Not everyone cares about music, they just want something to sing along with. I could make the same argument about someone that drives mainstream cars, *** is wrong with you? Why do you buy such generic crap? What about your watch? I bet it's a Citizen or a Timex...

Glad you're feeling somewhat better. Seems to be a thing going around, other friends kids have been super sick.

RE: Sounds- This is just me, and my perception after having been at ground zero for 2 shows, but yes, rounds would be the way to go. When you had the fuzz pedal on, your tone melded nicely tot he guitars, but not in a "stands out as its own thing" way, more of just a littled added oomph on their low end. I'm sure using the Hartke cabs didn't help, but unless they are willing to downsize (riiiight) you need WAY more rig, especially in speakers. But also deal with needing more mids in your sound than sounds good solo. Like those nasty spiky upper mids. The guitars have low mids and highs covered, and they need way less power to dominate.

But also, I could barely hear the 2nd guitar player last week, Chumpy McSingerboy was totally dominating that mix.

Read the Monster Magnet thing, here's my take:

Plenty of bands in our scene tour like crazy and do ok in the states. I think if Monster Magnet hadn't made the big grab for fame/money in the late 90's/early 00's and cranked out 4 or 5 really unremarkable albums they wouldn't have alienated their original, loyal fanbase. Yeah, the fans they cultivated during their big years are fickle, and they've already moved on to the "next big thing".

I don't blame them for wanting to make money or be famous, but the quality of their music really took a nosedive when they started getting airplay. If they had made an effort to stay true to their original fans or the stoner/doom scene as a whole they could be on the level of Sleep, High On Fire or Clutch - who tour a lot and sell out mid-sized venues in the states all the time.

Monster Magnet sucked. For more than a decade. That's why I'm no longer a fan and I think a lot of people feel the same way that I do.

Yes, Europe is better for all types of heavy music, but it doesn't mean that the States is completely worthless.

man i wish they made those in stainless. i emailed Skip and he said they're not quite ready.

didn't monster magnet play at willie boy's saloon in morongo valley off of highway 6 in the desert about 3 weeks ago, i thought it was weird that they number one were playing a place that wasn't all that big and number 2 i didn't even hear about it until the following monday on facebook, because my friend wanted to know if one of the guys was a zombie relative

Think your friend was thinking of Powerman 5000 (or PM5K for the cool kids), their singer is Rob Zombie's little brother.

I appreciate the 2c. And am loling at "Chumpy McSingerboy". He loves to show off his vintage Marshalls... and it is his project. I did get him to admit that he needs to turn down. Now if I can get him to stack his cabs and set his second amp on my rig so that I can keep my cabs together we would be in business. That would probably also physically convince him to turn down as he will hear himself better with the taller array.
Haha our 2nd guitarists nickname is City Limits the boy viking. Next show I am going to run my 4 pro bridged into my 810. I will probably ABY my signal to my Eden for another 500w into either my 215 or another 810. I have to talk to Hell Night's bassist to see if I can use his cab, though we are friends and I don't see it being an issue. Almost 2 kilowatts and two 810s should be enough for the 200 person club.
