Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Went and talked to the vice president of my company today for my annual review. He had literally nothing critical to say and scored me 10 of 10 on nearly all of the metrics. He told me that he almost never awards 10s, and I believe him. He is the type of person that is very blunt and plain spoken. If someone is ****ing up, he will tell them they are being a **** up. He strongly encouraged me to put my name in the hat for any upcoming opportunity that might arise. I wasn't supposed to get a raise until 2016 as my pay was more than doubled with my recent promotion. He decided that I have earned another little bump. Couldn't be more excited about all of this. I have never really been motivated to try as hard as I could at anything and outside of music I have never really felt like I had a natural talent for anything. It feels great to have a career in which I can practice a craft that I had a previously unknown natural talent for and that my efforts are recognized. All of those 14 hour days are paying off.

If I don't return here, or start talking about how tasty human skin looks... You'll know my part in the movie ended badly.

Hopefully the kid next door did it, I'd hate to have attracted the ill will or love of a crazy.

I already have a Thors hammer above the door and a devil trap in the yard. Clearly this devilry is far more potent than my magic.

Anyone buying that Sleep - Holy Mountain reissue? I already have a copy but since I'm in the middle of moving I can't look up what version I actually have. Think I remember mine sounding pretty good so no real reason to buy the new one. The colors do look cool though.

Mastodon reissuing albums with new colors of albums that you can STILL BUY ONLINE/IN STORE seems so shaging gimmicky.

I was planning on buying it. Not a fan of Earache or what they did to Sleep, but I would love a vinyl of Holy Mountain.

Hadn't heard about the reissue. I have the old Earache original press - sounds like Holy Mountain - not great, but that's how I'm used to it sounding. I haven't heard any of the CD remasters, though a friend of mine had a nice vinyl remaster that came out around 2002 or so. That sounded killer.

I have the picture disc Kreation put out in the 00s but I havent listened to it cause I'm collector scum.

I have a Holy Mountain LP that I bought in from Earache in 2002, but I don't think I've spun it in over a decade. Just because once I had an ipod, I only sat down and played records when I got kicked back by myself and got stoned or had a drink and I haven't done either in a really long time.

Also, Bryce, some Texan death cult is definitely coming for you. Fear sundown.

I was with my boys, wife, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law. If I had picked it up... I would have had to share it with the boys (3 and 6 years old, and VERY interested in playing with it).. and endure the wifely germophobic disapproval... too much hassle. Better to take a photo and make a mental note.

Oh believe me, if it weren't for the family hassles, it would be a permanent fixture on my mic stand!

Totally would do that too. But I guess we are both bone collectors.

My friends always coming over and saying I'll scare away everyone especially ladies. I don't think so, and I don't want even a remotely perma lady who would look down upon my natural artwork.
