Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

When people are talking about drums, and use words like

Resonance:
Sustain:
Overtones:
Attack:

What exactly do they mean. Resonance seems like it's just another word for sustain but I see people talk about them both together. Wish there were more demos of head combinations. I think remo emperors on tops and bottoms when I decide to months down the road would sound good and thick.

I lurk in this thread and have since it started with only occasional posts, anyways one of the bands I'm in (Hypnochron) is the local support for the Karma to Burn/Sierra tour this Thurs at the Red Line Tap in Chicago if anyone is going say hello and I'll buy you a beer and ******** about bass for awhile!

Sadly because the venue is kinda nazi-esque in their load in times I will only be playing my Epifani 1x15 and not my doom tuck n roll Kustom 3x15 but it still roars pretty good.

Good VEGA show last night. With all the snow I didnt want to put a cab on the roof so I was able to borrow a second cab, an ampeg 610, man it was boomy as hell. Wish I coulda borrowed Grottos bass rig...gen 1 model T into 810 and a Or120 into 215...Such amp. Much tone.

Tuxedo Bass 300 was waiting for me upon my arrival home. About to head down to the space to load everything back in so expect updated rig pics tonight...

Will do. Really looking forward to seeing them and Sierra live I really like the Sierra debut. Incidentally the other band I'm in just played a show with a band from California called Cold Blue Mountain that you guys would probably like. Kinda reminded me of Mouth of the Architect with less lead melodies and more groove. Pretty good stuff and were pretty nice guys sounded crushing live.

I don't know *** i really did on the pickup wiring.. gotta sort that out. the "blend" knob shouldn't result in zero output at the center detent.. oops.

Just got offered a vtm 60 in trade. Are these guys just butchers with the added switches, which seem small and idk how you'd use them.

it really does. Not that I need another amp at all. I just don't really favor the alphabass so I put it up for sale/trade locally to see what would come up and I have two local oeavey collectors who really are keen for it. Neither had a Vulcan...

Really unless I got something stand out I'll probably flip the trade bait. The vtm just teases me with tubes, but I still have that pignose to fix up and I should be happy with it, the series 400 and the mostly harmless.

did they record straight tape or did they use pro tools and then master on to tape? the last analog album I purchased was Beale St. by Clutch. other than the drums though, that album sounds like shvt to me. not necessarily becsuse it was analog but it was just poorly recorded. of course it was never released on vinyl so it was analog recording but digital mastering.

Think the studio Primordial used starting with To the Nameless Dead is all analog. Not sure, though.

I think the only big difference is the dip switches. I've always used my keys or a pick to switch them. Though honestly, once I got them set to a tone I wanted, I never really touched them again. The VTM60 is a good amp too, just a little less volume/headroom. Probably still pretty loud though, the VTM 120 is crazy loud for guitar.
