put the roto 77s on the bullet bass, now i am definitely putting them on my sb-2 also
the bullet with the rotos and the foam mute is just about where i want it to be tonally, jimmy coppolo is gonna look at it for me, cause i don't have a meter to check it out on and i'm not too familiar with how stock mustang pickups are supposed to perform on a long scale bass, he's also into dog rescues and wacky art so maybe he'll have some more input into the samhain bullet bass too

While making a Craigslist sale the other day, the buyer emailed me a link to his ska/funk band while we were chatting and invited me to one of their shows. I was very polite and non-committal, because I've hardly ever seen a band play locally here that I actually like. I clicked on the link this morning and was treated to a video of a bunch of awkward, mid 30's white dudes playing ska, while a bunch of awkward mid 20's white people danced to it like parents at a wedding. So...that was a thing that happened.

I clicked on the link this morning and was treated to a video of a bunch of awkward, mid 30's white dudes playing ska, while a bunch of awkward mid 20's white people danced to it like parents at a wedding. Madison is full of the awkward-middle-aged-hippie-parents that like to dance to any and all music at our many neighborhood festivals during the summer. It's always weird and a little embarrassing to the rest of us, but I don't begrudge them their fun. I'm glad to live in a city that's full of those types of people, with lots of greenspace and lakes.

It is actually very similar to many parts of Missouri except the rivers and lakes in WI are glacial in origin and thus, better. I thoroughly enjoy every experience I have had there. The winter months kind of blow, but it isn't THAT unbearable.

Yeah, the winters are long and poopy - but oh man, the spring, summer and fall are INCREDIBLE. Lakes, rivers, hills, forests, hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, swimming, awesome.

We have land in the driftless area (lots of hills and valleys, much of it forested), 40 acres of private forest that we use for camping, hunting, foraging and gardening. A few hours north is all semi-pristine lakes and forests. I can drive 4.5 hours and be at a secluded spring fed lake in a national forest with old growth trees. Not too shabby.

My dad has made vague references to fond feelings for Madison, WI from back in his late-60's Vietnam-war-protestin', Rugby-playin' days as a grad student in Iowa City, having made numerous trips to Madison to participate in the above activities.

I've failed to get him to divulge specifics, but it seems to have been a good time. Glad it still is

As I was discussing with Nick the other day, I prefer shows where I can stand with my hands in my pockets and nod slowly.

You havent played a 1820 in a venue then. MASSIVE lowend amd volume from that cube sized 18 cab, and combine that with the Folded 18 while running full PVYHenge...oh boy.

Some day I need to visit Culian in Michigan and try his fearful and dually out.

I'd still venture to guess that it's more upper bass. The old Peavey 15"s certainly are.

Not that that's a bad thing. I mean, after all, I like the Ampeg 810E... and despise the 410HLF with a fiery passion that burns hotter than a thousand suns. So yeah.

The 1820 has some decent low end, but it has got nothin on a '66.

Also, got a nasty cold a few days ago. Spent yesterday in bed with a fever. Strangely enough, the only thing that didn't annoy me was doom. Listened to Yob, Acid King and Bongripper all day.

Eh... I've found that basically everywhere in the USA east of the Rockies (and some that's west of them) is way too humid for me in the summer.

Never heard of them. I looked them up and they're in Santa Cruz. I wouldn't consider that local, geographically or philosophically. Santa Cruz is about as near as anything I'm interested in checking out happens. I have to drive an hour before there are things that interest me, in general. Santa Cruz, San Jose and beyond or Big Sur the other way. Salinas and Monterey, not so much.

I never liked Ibanez, but since I bought my Roadstar, I definitely changed my mind. I still don't like contemporary models. The old ones, though...

Never heard of them. I looked them up and they're in Santa Cruz. I wouldn't consider that local, geographically or philosophically. Santa Cruz is about as near as anything I'm interested in checking out happens. I have to drive an hour before there are things that interest me, in general. Santa Cruz, San Jose and beyond or Big Sur the other way. Salinas and Monterey, not so much.

Good point. Salinas is pretty far from everywhere. Monterey is notable and semi-close to it, but also very small.

I'm selling mine. Gotta make money, and haven't been playing it.

I feel the same way about Ibanez. In the 70s and early 80s they made some awesome basses, but I've not been even remotely interested in anything they've made, since, except maybe the ATK and the Black Eagle reissue they just came out with.
