Great GH practice last night, we only need one more song to have enough for our debut full length, would like to have that out before 2015 closes.
Did some board rewiring and actually using the FX loop on the Dunwich DI/preamp to lighten up some of the tap dancing. Starting to solidify what gets turned on where and when for each song. And getting better at singing and playing at the same time on one of our songs, only a struggle with a couple words in the verses. Next practice I want to actually start singing through the PA. And I would love to be able to sing that song when we play with Pelham Blue in laterish March.

The best J pickups I have used are the Carvin J99A. Granted, I haven't tried them all, but these are dead quiet, sound great in B and are as nasty as I want them to be.Dudes, I'm putting together a new Jazz bass. Looking for pickups. Thoughts? I play doom in B standard, and love mids. My first thoughts were the SD "Hot" Jazz, as it's got a 4/6/4 tone profile. I've got a P Quarter Pounder in a different bass that I like, but the jazz quarter pounder tone profile shows scooped, not enhanced mids. Thoughts?

Monterey is a step up from Salinas, in that they at least have music venues or bars that allow live music, but it's almost exclusively two 3 hour set bar band type stuff. There's some metal, but for some reason Monterey has always been really inhospitable to bands from Salinas. Some kind of self imposed segregation that I has never really made any sense to me. I only know anyone who plays music in Monterey because I have some friends who are FROM Monterey, but currently live in Salinas. That is weird.
Spent a summer at Ft. McCoy doing Army stuff and drinking Leinie's Red along the river in LaCrosse. Don't know what it was about that area, but I absolutely loved it. The rolling hills, friendly folks, good beer, and cheese curds. OMG, I'd do just about anything for REAL cheese curds. The ones at Culvers blow. Also Daves Guitars in LaCrosse is an amazing shop. I was tempted to move, but the GF(now wife) wasn't down for the winters.
Weird. I'm so used to music being a "play this end of the area, then this end" and so on with nobody particularly caring which part of the area bands are from.

When I was just out of high school I made some friends that lived there, so I'd go up and visit on weekends. There's another bluff south of Grandad (the big one that's open to the public), that's on private property but supposedly awesome. So a bunch of us packed a backpack full of sandwiches and other provision, parked a few blocks away and started hiking in to the private bluff. About 3/4 of the way to the top a guy on a 4-wheeler pulled up and yelled at us to GTFO of his property. We played dumb and calmed the guy down a bit. Before he rode off he softened - "Alright, you can do your hike, just don't leave any trash and DON'T shagING FALL OFF THE BLUFF. I'M SICK AND shagING TIRED OF HAVING TO CALL THE COPS TO COME COLLECT BODIES OF DEAD DUMBASS TEENAGERS."
Social dynamics of this area are very strange. People consider Salinas to be some kind of ghetto and Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel and the surrounding areas to be some kind of exclusive country club or something. Even though they're all really the same people and most of entertainment is either completely DIY or pretty much bars for military/DLI type people and touristy places (in Monterey, there's no legal live music in Salinas). It means nothing to me, because I don't play music here and I don't socialize here. Every band I was ever in that did anything played more elsewhere than at home and all the bands that make a big deal about being "big" in this area are completely awful and I have no desire to go to their shows.

I would be on the floor giggling like a mad man. Uncontrolably. Also, the NYAN setting would be insane, I owuln't be able to handle myself.

There's sort of a divide between SF and East Bay here, but it's pretty subdued. People play with everyone.

if someone can seriously stack those together and try it using low notes you might have some serious tones going on.

So, I caved and bought one of these used for my guitar rig. You guys ever hear one?
It's the Rivera Metal Shaman. Even the "bad" videos I've seen - the ones where you can tell the recording quality is ****, sounded decent. The good ones sound AMAZING! So I pulled the trigger on one, and got it dirt cheap! Arrives tomorrow!
