Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Maybe the digitech drop? Ive never tried it though. I do think your gonna need a hell of a cabinet and power source to be heard a whole octave below e on bass.
Eh, it would just be joining the main signal, not using the sub octave on its own. Just to make a standard tuned bass a bit more bassy for accompanying anything my guitarist does with the Schecter Hellcat (which is basically a Fender Bass VI).

Maybe something like a meatbox or density hulk would work better for adding more bass. Id be worried that adding another octave is going to make the band sound muddy. But ive never tried to play with some one on a bass vi.

A meatbox is gonna destroy his cab.

Honestly, if it's anything like the bass vi you can get a lot of tones out of it. I'd assume he'd be using a rather guitar like approach and tone, otherwise if he wanted to play bass just reverse roles or play his bass part.

If he uses the bridge pickup and bright tone. It's gonna be like a thick baritone. Maybe when he goes to use it, just kick off your graphic EQ and play with the more fendery basic stack and kinda lose the midrange assault.

I try not to get political here, because this is a happy place, but for ****'s sake:

Scott Walker: If I can handle protesters, I can defeat ISIS - Business Insider

Scott, if you've got it all figured out then GO THE HELL OVER THERE AND GET IT DONE.

Cross-eyed dipsh*t.

Also - I protested in 2011. Apparently that warrants comparing me to a psychotic terrorist. Thanks, Gov. I really appreciate it. I'm glad to know that you think so highly of me and a bunch of teachers, firefighters and EMS crews.

I seriously thought for the last day that this was a statement made by the guy that wrote 30th Century Man, and was sad. But then I thought, "Nah, he's English, I'm thinking of the guy that covered Don't Call Us, We'll Call You, which is a bummer, I like his stuff."

And it was only 10 minutes ago on Facebook that I was just freaking way wrong on both counts. I have no idea how I got that all confused so badly.

I thought it was for the hellcat?

They track better on the neck always. No idea what it's gonna sound like tbh, what are you hoping for?
Hell no, he doesn't need more low end in his sound, lol. The octaver would be for me.

The goal would be to use it while playing my Rickenbacker in EADG tuning (as opposed to my Peavey, which is in BEAD). Our instruments would be tuned to the same thing, but the low octaver, with just a bit of that sub-octave mixed in, would make mine still sound lower due to timbre.

The bridge pickup on this one is a humbucker, I think.

Turning off the graphic EQ also greatly reduces my overdrive and volume, as I have it helping boost both of those as well, so I'd have to turn it off and turn my channel volume way up.

I honestly think High On Fire's Fertile Green is the coolest music video ever produced.

BTW, Still Valley is most heavily killer. Really dig the track you posted yesterday.
Thanks so much!

Yeah, High on Fire and Black Cobra were the first two "stoner/doom" type bands I got into. HoF is just one of the most consistently awesome bands out there right now. Matts riffs are just as he described in the documentary Such Hawks. They hit you like a battle axe.

Hmm well I still think an EQ boost/altering would be more to what you'd want. Just make sure you guys aren't stepping on each other's toes. Though I'm confused why you don't just play the hellcat, and him guitar. Or you play that peavey and play your part around the b string. you may still be fine as is, try before you buy something.

I just would Worry your octave would be glitchy and not be really convincing. the Oc-3 I had didnt do an E well. I think they glitch at f.

Pog I've never heard in person, I've heard they can do E, but some people don't like it? It's just kinda pricey regardless of model. No sub octave on the micro.

In fact octavers all seem pricey unless they are oc-2/3 copies.

So you're in standard E tuning and need an octave to add booty? I'm thinking any of the more known brands like EBS, Aguilar, EHX (as mentioned) would work. Oh yeah, YMMV

I mean just the one octave down from E. Not two. And I don't want to play the Hellcat because... well, it just doesn't really interest me, and it really does interest the guitarist.

I mean, I can't really afford to get another bass just to string it an octave down if he's going to use what's essentially a Bass VI. I'm trying to sell one of the ones I have. And for most of our stuff, BEAD is just fine. I mean it would be through overdrive and poopie, so maybe the glitchiness wouldn't matter that much?

I'm normally in BEAD, and for most of the new material he's been in BEADGbB, while the other guitarist is always in BEADGBE, and the keyboard player is in EADGBE when he plays guitar.

One guitarist is wanting to play a Fender Bass VI-esque instrument that the drummer owns. For that, I'm thinking that I would play my EADG-tuned Rickenbacker with a little bit of octave-under mixed in. The problem is that to be useful, the octave pedal has to be able to do a low E.
