I have to admit that sort of thing is what burned me out on CC and their like.
I love aggressive music in all sorts but eventually the verbiage gets to you.

I love aggressive music in all sorts but eventually the verbiage gets to you.
I thought it was awesome when I was 14, was over by the time I was 15. It's just adolescent ******** - someone got dumped once and now hates women. Grow up and get over it. You can write gore grind songs and not have them be all about killing women.
The song I never felt comfortable listening to was "Pedo-Necrophelia". I don't want THAT to be on my life's soundtrack

Never listened to CC in my life before, these names are hilarious. I assume it's all for shock value (totally broot$ to a 14 year old as mbelue said), not a serious interest in the things they write about. That said I doubt I'll miss anything if I continue not to listen.
I never listened to anything heavy until I found this actually. I think black sabbath and nirvana were my heaviest until I was 22

Yep! Used the Wizard Fuzz for probably 80% of the time, have one riff where I stack the BB with the WF, and the rest is "clean" which is still pretty overdriven.

I gotta say, the older I get the less I want to listen to newer music that even has vocals. Maybe I'm just getting crotchety. But I'll hear some new band and be bobbing along digging it, then the vocals/lyrics come in and--to my mind--are just distracting, tedious, insipid or otherwise annoying.
This isn't always true. I like vox on what I've heard of Ufomammut, Lent0, some Sword stuff, but I am always on the lookout for seriously heavy bands w/o singers.
I got turned on to Earthless not long ago and need to check them out more. Anyone rate that band? Definitely more on the psych/jam side of things. Definite stoners; not so much doomy though.
+Infinity. I am constantly looking for instrumental bands because of vocals I just can't do anymore. I also get so excited nodding along to a new band then saddened when vocals ruin it for me, on to the next band on the list. Old guy issues I guess. I do love when you hear a new band then actual cool vocals kick in it is win win. Brethren, damn I felt like the only guy on here who felt like that.
I think part of it is that when you hit a certain age, as music obsessives, you have a METRIC $#!% TON of music-listening under your belt.
It gets to the point where it's like "Well, I've heard this before, and I liked it more when it was more original."
I often get turned on to a band and think "Well, this is okay, but they are just ripping off (insert name of a band that was doing something similar earlier on)."
And that's okay. Originality is not the be-all and end-all of making or listening to music. If it were, we'd have precious few things to listen to!
But with lyrics in particular, whatever genre of rock or pop or whatever, I just feel like I've heard it all before, heard it done better, and there's nothing much I can get out of listening to a 20 year old expel his or her angst or other emotions through their "heavy, hardcore lyrics, maaaan."
I just kind of roll my eyes most times.
I do still dig on listening to older stuff I always liked that has vocals...that's just nostalgia.
I also find that a lot of the loudfastrules punk stuff I listened to all through the 80s doesn't hold up for me very well, and it's mainly the material that has overtly political lyric content. Unless there is some humor mixed in with it (Dead Kennedys and Crucif**** come to mind) I just can't hack it much, even though there are still loads of punk from that period I still spin now and then.
Instrumental bands are overrated
+10000000000 to this. I just don't want to listen to 95% of these new bands because I already own albums from other bands that already did the same thing and sound exactly the same. The latest one I heard was Ruby the Hatchet....I have like 2 or 3 other bands in my collection that Ruby The Hatchet just copied. Why would I bother with Ruby the Hatchet? I'll just listen to what I already have. Even the guitar tones are unoriginal, especially the solos. You gotta give me something new.
i find myself thinking about the songs more like the analysis stage of a visual art critique nowadays, maybe add a second lead guitar here, maybe use a warmer sounding drum set, maybe use an envelope filter, maybe read a book from a high school english class, you know that sort of thing

Exactly. It's in a lot of genres I listen to that I prefer instrumental anymore. I just wish all music you buy had a way of cutting out the vocals, well any part of the music as it would be great to hear just the bass and drums sometimes, just guitar, etc. And the political shite does get old without humor, even without music, being hipster pc and and extreme liberalism is starting to annoy me as much as ultra-conservative shite these days even when I agree on the points LOL. I actually get sad as much as mad when you hear great awesome tunes then some horrible vocalist jumps in and you think really, really, you guys did all that hard work and showed such talent and that is the vocals you want on it, or I should say the blanket you want to lay over it. To each his own though, some guys love cookie monster, old eighties metal vocals, etc. Been there, done that but still love the instruments under all of it I suppose.
