Awhellyeah. What's your poison? The past several months I was on a major "dark and thick as I can get it" jag. I discovered something called "Milk Stout" from a brewery in Colorado that is amazing.

Now that Spring is here I'll probably switch over to some more lagers and pale ales. At least that seems to be the way I roll...

Yeah, that would have been okay for me when I was younger as long as their were gigs to play and parties to go to.

Now, there's no way I could take it. when I was in New York state, for several weeks it would get dark at 4:40 in the afternoon and be black as pitch by 6PM.

For me, that ain't no way to live.

I guess, for me, the friendliness can't really make up for the terrible politics. I have friends who are gay, friends who are transgendered, friends who have had abortions. So friendliness coming from the same people that would vote to, in my view, take away my friends' rights, just comes off as fake facade level crap to me.

I see your point. You're right on. I feel the same way.

But even here in Oklahoma, there has always been a very large LGBT community, there are Wicca and pagan folk (more than you'd think) and back in the day, there was a very active punk scene with a great local movement and tons of well known bands played through.

I think the trick is to find and gravitate towards people you share philosophies with and you can be kind to others without having to get involved with them.

At the same time, I see where this could be seen as fakery...facade as you mentioned.

I just try to be genuinely open and decent to people I meet. Honestly, hereabouts I don't find myself getting dragged into religious or political discussions. It was worse in other places I've lived where the first thing someone asks is "Where do you go to church?" or you had door-to-door Bible thumpers coming around all the time. I just haven't experienced very much of that here.

Maybe my worldview is too simplistic, but I'm very loyal to my friends, and so people who would oppress them, given the chance, can only be my enemies.

I might take a different tack in my personal life, but this is a very honorable feeling and approach to have. Admirable.

At base, though, I feel similarly: the only reasonable approach to bigotry is to be bigoted against it.

The only reasonable approach to intolerance is to be intolerant of it.

I think it would get very tiring to be asked "where do you go to church?" a ton, though. Though if I did live in a conservative area, I might actually find the local Unitarian Universalist Church and go to that, just to find all the hippies, ha.

I mean, I try not to be actively rude to people in my day to day interactions... but I can't see myself just being cool with people who I know are super bigoted and who vote for bigoted policies without feeling like I'm letting my friends down.

Bible thumpers rarely come around here. Basement apartment and such, so not tempting I guess. When I was a kid, they went to our house, and my dad flatly told them that he was Roman Catholic and so thought they were heretics (he was Catholic, but not conservative, so he didn't actually give a poopie about heresy, he was just annoyed with the door to door people and wanted to mess with them). They didn't come around after that.

Well we certainly don't let the darkness prevent us from writing. Although I've never really noticed how it affects our writing, if at all.

Yep. Even when it is "daytime" we go weeks with out proper sunlight. Or you work somewhere with no windows, so you go in before the sun comes up, and leave after it goes down.

i used to work in the basement of a discount store once. Would go 3-5 days without seeing the sun. sucked but I was 22 and it did not affect me mentally like it would now. Thankfully my current job is in a building where the outside walls are just windows.

I'll take retro over cookie monster any day. Can't count how many times I've heard a new track and start getting into the tones or riff, and then some idiot starts growling a bunch of crap all over it. Talk about played out. If you can't sing, layer in some spoken word, or some samples, or get someone who can. Or just play. Sad for me because there are a lot of bands I'd like if they let go of the idiot growling.

Born and raised in Austin Texas, now I'm in DFW. Never lived anywhere else, but been plenty of other places. Love love love it here. Winters suck, but only because I hate grey skies, I feel like I'm trapped in a snow globe. Our freaky snows were gone within the next day or so of their occurances. It's 70+ here and I had to use my AC on my drive home. It can get humid here, it's not dry dry. Though come summer when it gets to 105 in the shade, the heat waves wiggling in the air and the cicadas crying (sizzling noise) it'll feel and sound like you stepped into a frying pan when you go outside.

I learned the DFW airport is bigger than the island of Manhattan. We have texas factoid billboards.

I walked past this house on the street behind me yesterday. Three horses just wandering around the open yard like trained dogs... That's not normal mind you, even in Texas.

Got this for $30 today after work. it's even bigger and heavier than the muffs! Sadly ant get the cheap nano off reverb. I contacted the guy and he lived nearby and was gonna be in the area and deliver it for $50, but sold it overnight before I could agree to that amazing offer.

So I'm sitting in my car and had a moment of clarity.
I'm a caffeine junkie and I'm sipping on some Amp but what I really want is one of these:

@bassboysam stop being modest your music is terrible......for karaoke and singalongs. Otherwise it's pretty great.

Did you watch fresh off the boat? The kid mentioned ecto coolers in the latest episode or one prior.

I'm looking for something to practice my guitar with via headphones. Ideally, I want to keep my signal as close to "real" as possible, i.e. keep all but the cabinet in the chain. I know some stuff is out there that will let me plug my head into a box (with headphone connections) instead of my cab and listen from there. Would these allow it? If not, any suggestions?

Yeah that's what i was getting at. Never had much of that here, but other places I've lived...Louisiana, Virginia...

Agree. The citizens are typically more laid back and cool than our idiot nutjob legislators.

Nope substituting this for a speaker would dedicatedly kill this and maybe the amp.

You can add the options you want but you've gotta get the wattage right or smoke comes or.

Plus with this genre you can go a long time before any lyrics kick in when you are checking out a new band. You get all settled in the zone and then bam it sounds like someone passing a kidney stone jumped on the mic!

@kleinenenten If you wouldn't mind to skip using your head an Orange Micror Terror is cheap, especially used. It has the cool features of an MP3 input and headphone output, plus it has a tube preamp in it and sounds great with bass IMO.

I like vocals. i listen to music for everything. Most music I listen to wouldnt make sense without vocals. Even if the artist says they write lyrics but they don't mean anything, they still compliment the song, same with tone and delivery. If I hear music I didn't turn on I recognize it by the vox always.

More ambient proggy doom or lighter fare makes sense without vocals. However this song wouldn't be anything without lyrics.
