Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Hung over second day over...
A friend who's Danish is leaving Poland and going back to Denmark after 6 years here, he threw this monstrous goodbye party with shvtload of booze and trees on Friday. It's 11PM here and I'm starting to regain my senses.

Downtuned my J to C and rolled off the bridge pup to use it in a new doom project. Sounds killer with the Cloven Hoof. Also, turns out it doesn't like the DOD 250. The P is a killer through it, the J gets too dark for my taste.

BTW, what string gauge do you guys use for C standard tuning? I've got 105s on right now, but they are too floppy. I was considering the DR DDT 115's as I don't want to go BEAD on it just yet.

using 110 Rotos at the moment, but as i'm bouncing between C standard and B standard, it's not quite enough to hold B to my satisfaction. i'm thinking i'm gonna try and find a light 5 string set (120 or 125).

39 year old dads rockin OUT! Hex Volt last night:

the show went really well overall. Turnout coulda been better but could have been a whole lot worse. We raised $276 for Crisis Nursery of Phoenix. We played well despite some technical drum issues early on that took a few minutes to fix, so I got to play live that bass solo I wrote when I was 17 :) Beyonce "Halo" cover largely met with confused looks though the double-time outro got 'em into it.

Killer. Man, I miss gigging beyond my capacity to express myself.

Busy weekend...picked up and installed a new dryer (our old one was staining our white clothes with rust), sorted through all our CDs and DVDs in storage and sold the ones that were good shape (around 400 or more) for around $357 and had a day out in Santa Cruz with the fam, started recording Dunwich ODB demos today and just cooked a big batch of jambalaya.

Here's some blueprints I've drawn up for the 215 build. It will be ~3/4" walnut, with a Baltic Birch front baffle, all joined with a Kreg Jig/screws and PL Premium so it probably doesn't need as much bracing as the 1/2" baltic builds.

Back corner cutouts and top back center cutout are for tilt-back wheels/handle. Just realized I forgot to include the front>back bracing in the back view. Oops. Larger dotted lines around driver cutouts represent the mounting lip diameter.

Please let me know if anything looks wrong, or if you have any input.

Zoom H2n? @Lazarus.Bird has something similar to that I believe with two mics.

Yeah I use an H4 I bought off CL for like $50. Took me awhile to figure out I needed to try to stick it as far away from the sound source as possible in our practice space. Even though we weren't clipping the mic pre we were still so loud it was overloading the diaphram. Although our practice space was real bouncy. Seems to work a lot better in our new space that is sound treated. Regardless, yeah the quality is pretty solid. Nothing I'd ever post online as a work of the band, but great for recording riffs and tracking stuff to practice at home.

I just sold off the most visually beautiful rig Ive ever had. My guitarist just bought my Fender Superbassman and the matching 610 from me for a band he plays bass in... I feel bittersweet.

Wait, is your guitarist Paul Cogle?
