Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I am a hypocrite who doesn't practice what he preaches, but I do believe that we should insist on happiness. Otherwise, you can end up with more regrets that good memories, and that won't do.

In practice, though, it's tough to keep it up...

Bryce I got to diddle a baritone Danelectro on Saturday, pretty sweet.

I need to do the cap job on my bari for added brightness. I switched back to the bronco in the meantime as it can get brighter and darker lol.

Yeah you have to hound CL when they pop up. There is an outfitter down the OBX that is about 3 hours from me that sells old rentals off, so I keep an eye on them. I want a kayak material one so it will hold up to my abuse and I can rig it for fishing too. I would trash it or be too heavy for the surfboard type.

Can you go as far comfortably on a paddle board? Like I am 3 min by car from a ten mile River run. Am I going to get 2 miles in and my friend be drop dead exhausted and I'll have to pull him along on his now "paddle stretcher"?

It's a 13th Floor Elevators kind of Monday

Did pandora suggest that? I never use pandora, but they are a station I have, randomly at like 2am on Friday pandora sent me an alert and was like it's time for 13th floor right?

Hell, any day is good for a 13th Floor Elevators day. One of the greatest. Gotta love that Roky.

Well, I think you can be angry and still happy. Sometimes I think the energy that comes from having a little anger or sneering at the world can engender happiness. Maybe that's off. Dunno. For me, anger never had much to do with depression or stress/anxiety. It's somehow been more cathartic to me, which ultimately turns positive.

Maybe it depends on the way you deal with or harness your anger. Instead of taking it out on others, I usually turn to some kind of creative project. Playing very loud, aggressive music helps sometimes as well. Other times chilling out to narcotic music is the right medicine.

Back when I used to have an actual amp rig that could blow peoples' hats off, I'd channel anger through that. That was best.

i've been way better the last six years about binge drinking and getting into fights with people at art shows and music venues, don't worry i can channel it into visual arts and songwriting nowadays

Yeah, I was more of a drinker/scrapper in my younger years. I'm 46 now, been married almost 20 years, have teenage kids. All that mellowed me a lot. My wife and I, though, are at heart both wild people. We constantly fight the desire to give a huge "Eff YOU" to the world and society in general and just drive around living in an RV looking for trouble.

I did think 30 inch scale was a bit of a stretch for other than power chords like 27 or 28 inches might be more comfy for baritone tuning.

No Pandora didn't mention it, I was fooling around on Grooveshark listening to Americana then just felt in the mood for 13th Floor.

I don't know that much about the SUP's but if the river is bumpy I think a yak would be better. They seem to book on open water though, but if it got windy the way your were going I bet it would be tougher to get back home then on the yak since you would be catching all the wind with your whole body. I was watching a guy surfing with one down OBX a few years back. He caught the waves faster than surfers/boogey boarders, caught more waves, rode the waves farther, and never fell off the board. That was the longboard surfing kind though.
This is what I would love to have the Liquid Logic Versa Board. Converts from SUP to YAK.

Just got contacted by an old friend. Lives here in my town, great all-around musician, but one of the best drummers I have ever worked with.

He has a huge bass amp rig (not sure what it's composed of yet) but wants to start a project/have some fun. This guy is pro...used to tour a lot and still plays in a million pickup bands, does recording sessions, etc.

Got my fingers crossed we can reconnect and wreak some mayhem. He's got great taste in music too. Been so long since I jammed with anyone I'm hoping he'll be cool with starting out just doing some Sabbath or Misfits covers or something, while I get my feet wet again.

Damn the Americana bands mention the other day has got me all nostalgic. Listening to Son Volt's Trace album now. I think that is the album I have listened to the most of any thing I have listened to in my life. It kept me going on many trips back and forth from PA to Florida. Perfect road trip album. Too bad Farrar never pulled another album off like that again. I tried to get the ol' lady to listen to it one day and she almost stabbed me for playing country LOL.

I've never tried a stand-up paddle board, never understood why you want to stand when you can sit in a canoe or kayak. I think for anything other than tooling around a lake/bay you're just going to get tired of standing up.

I love Kayaking, would really like to get a couple of them, Madison is great for small boats. One of my good friends spends his summers on a lake in the Upper Peninsula, every morning and every evening we're out there in the kayaks watching the bald eagles, loons, heron and cranes.
