Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I wanted to try a Barbershop for years and was sadly not into it when I finally got one. It was way too flubby/farty sounding to me, the wrong kind of "pushed tube" tone for my taste. My EBS Multidrive fits that tone perfect for me, a little tighter and more focused/sharp, and I don't even use it that much. I'm curious about that Frank pedal though, just because I keep seeing that brand around and haven't heard any of their pedals yet.

I've been wanting to try that EBS box. I never seem to hang on to dirt boxes for very long. I like the Barbershop so far...just gotta watch that sag knob as it can get real flubby real fast. The Big Ear pedals are really nice, but everyone's opinion is different. The Barbershop stacked behind the XD-1 sounds fantastic to me

I traded the peavey alphabass head for it. I previously had seen one locally for $200. I think anything under $300 is a good deal.

There's one semi-local for $300 and the guy is looking for a bunch of trades. I absolutely don't need it, I just have a soft spot for cheap 80's tube amps.

They're usually used for $80 or less I think. I know I really didn't like the Barbershop, because I really WANTED to like it. I played with it for about an hour before I gave up trying to get a tone I really liked out of it, then plugged in to my EBS just for comparison and it was back up in the classifieds right quick.

What you need is a carbon fiber pick guard.

I have never been into CF that much, but that certainly looks very cool. I really am tossed over it. I mean I will eventually get one as OCD will command it, but the idea of spending $44 plus shipping for a bass I paid like $110 bucks for hurts my brain.

Pickgaurd heaven also has matte B/W/B... Ugh...

I'd try and trade or swing $250/$275.

It's controls are weird in terms of gain/pump/post gain. You can turn the post off and it still works? I think it's just three gain stages with control over each.

Overall so far it can get far cleaner and seems to not get nearly as dirty as most "Marshall copies" I've played. You'd probably wind up using a pedal if you wanted more than mild tube drive. I haven't cranked it 100% though. 50% is as far as I've gotten and I could hear myself over drums and guitar easily. Massive transformers!

Off with the tort and the hand guard. Hello black!

I just realized my black beauties are on back order. They may not get here in time.
