Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

So Friday night I went to a friend of a friend of a friends house and we were in his garage and I met his dog that's the cattle dog that mine is (and convinced me they are awesome).

We are out in a country house at 12:30am and this man with a gun in his pants pocket shows up into the garage and asks for David (no david there) then when told who lives there decides he needs their number so they can fix his truck and just is real weird then disappeared back into the night out into the country.

Well earlier on Friday afternoon I got a call from a guy wanting to buy my Tama shells. Well I'm about to go meet him right now and I ask his address and he decides to explain to me how to get there and it turns out he's off that same road as the country house I was at and I got nervous this was gun man, but no it's the dad of the friend of a friend of a friend I met Friday?! Small world.

For most people the 400rb is more ideal than the 800rb. The biAMPing system isn't suited for regular bass cabinets. Most of us bassists just can't figure that out.

Maybe that is why I didn't keep the 800RB. The 400 blew me away at the first few notes I played but I never remember the 800RB sounding good like that. The guy I bought the 400 sold it to me because he got a 800 now. So I played both but 400 seemed to be the winner to me.

There are slight design differences between the (original) two. IIRC the 800rb has a steeper and higher HPF than the 400rb. Which is going to attribute allot to feel in the lowend. I've also heard some debate about the end of the 800rb's preamp changes so it can drive two poweramps and those changes"could" sound different.

This is true in lots of manufacturers though. Sometimes the "little brother" amp sounds better.

Its all subjective.
One day I'd like to use 800rb and play around with some big subwoofers. Use it the "way it was meant."

Need to take it down to the shell and clean it up, but looks and sounds to be potential keeper.

6x14 steel snare with 30 strand wire bed, 14x24 kick. Simple but great mix.

Was supposed to go get her today, but there was a storm last night and her owners are out chasing their escaped cows. So tomorrow.

I've done a lot of research all day. It's a Australian cattle dog/Australian Shepard Mix known as a Texas Heeler. They are are super smart and active, but not big. Works for me as I wanted something I could walk or ride my bike with or hike and it's made for that without taking up excessive space.

Got a big yard, I'll get two baby barriers on Amazon so I can control where it goes in the house.

Good news is they seem like nice people who use their dogs are real cattle dogs and aren't trying to puppy mill so I feel safer about it's genetics and health. My vet major friend is also coming with and gonna guide me through this.
You do realize what "super smart" and "dog" in the same description means, yes?

Considering it.
Trip is balancing the Tech21 VTRM in the signal chain as well with the pedal input. Final level can't be set until you make the choice on the VTRM Drive, Character and Blend. Add to that and the input pedal signal being a OD/Clean blend fuzz. At some point I may not even need the OD if I can find the happy spot on the unit.

I've been a fan of the Tech 21 sim circuit. Now I seem to be blending it out having pedals.
If I wasn't running pedals it can go to OD Grindsville in a pinch.
Currently a modified SVT setting but with the blend rolled back to like 2 out of 10.

Gonna set up and play a little tomorrow.
Well see how what I like here in a huge empty room will translate to a small packed room.

My pedals really sound different through the 400RB compared to my other heads. Not awful just different. I like the Tyrant, the Speaker Cranker, and the American Sound less with the 400RB but the Hellcat rat clone much better with the 400RB. I think I need to take the tapewounds off the Jazzquarbird and go back to rounds to really hear the 400RB grind. I still can't get over how good that 64 Jazz bass sounded, I am more a p then a jazz guy but man that thing pounded. Is it bad I like using the mid cut swtich engaged, I felt anti-bass engaging it but damn it sounds good that way. I need to get new knobs for the controls, I guess any grooved slide on knobs would work?
