I was just listening to the new album and it sounds incredible. Have to give it some more thought.

Still 3/4 comatose, but my notes from the QOTSA show:
1. It was at Roy Wilkins in St. Paul, which is next door to the Xcel Center, which had a playoff hockey game. Massive crowds between the two events, no parking. A zoo. I was hoping for a mods vs. rockers brawl to breakout ala The Who's Quadrophenia, especially when the rockers started chanting for the visiting squad outside.
2. Sound in the venue was pretty mushy. I was about 10-20 feet in front of the sound desk, dead center, and it was a dull roar. Drums were hella loud. If I didn't know the songs by heart, I'd've been screwed.
3. Watched Mickey Shuman a bit. Good player and good energy. Good pipes, from what I could discern. Had some great screams, both into the condenser effect mic and some into the regular mic.
4. They played a new-in-the-works song. Tough to evaluate since the sounds was mush, but it was definitely a riff fest.
5. Usual gearfest, rig/axe drooling applies.
6. Pre-show Five Guys kicked ass.

The guy says no tone suck, and no low end loss... Anybody ever see / feel / touch/ hear one?
Didn't work out with the home offer.
Additionally my band has been planning on calling ourselves RUINS, knowing there's a crust band from Germany with the same name, but today they were features on CVLT.... so back to the name hunt.
So to round out my rant, check this poopie out:
May 1st I transfer funds from PayPal-> my bank account. A few days later, PayPal says the transaction is completed, but the money hasn't shown. I do a little research and discover that the bank Closed the account in question (without my consent or notification) due to inactivity on 4/14. So the bank says the account is gone, no way the money is there.... PayPal says it is. After a trip to the bank and numerous phone calls to both parties PayPal initiated a trace and insists that the money is in an account which allegedly doesn't exist any longer. Going back to the bank with said trace-information tomorrow.

Definitely not knocking Fender amps or amps derived from them. My guitarist's Peavey bassman copy sounded great, and was pretty affordable, I think.Tell you what, I have sat down with a early 60's black face twin reverb, a early 70's MM HD130 with Clapton mod, a Fuchs OD supreme 50 (dumble clone), and my VHT special 6. They are all fender style circuits. You can get very similar tones out of all of them. Granted they are going to have different power sections, and the speakers used will effect the character of the tone. BUT if you cant make any of them sound good, I am not blaming the amp.
That $130 special 6 through two 412's gets pretty gnarly. Dirtier than your mother before your dad met her.
I just think it's weird to pay 30K for what's basically an overdriven Fender.
I can get a sound I like on most amps, so it's not that I think a Dumble would sound bad. I just don't think it would sound sixty times better than a Fender.
Tell me more about this Special 6.
Eight hundred just for the wood? I'd rather just make one myself unless it's a really difficult design. But maybe that's because I don't have $800 extra to spend.
I was kinda interested in Monolith's 2000S cab copy back when I had a job, and before Monolith went... well... we all know what happened.
I've seen Uzala. They're really good, and they do sound big. But to me it still sounds like something's missing in the lows/low mids. It's still pretty apparent that they don't have an actual bassist, I mean. I feel like I'm supposed to pretend not to hear that empty space in bands with that format, but I just can't. Only band like that I've ever heard that didn't sound like anything was missing was Dark Castle.
That's just my opinion, though, and make no mistake, Uzala are still a great band. I just think they could benefit from having actual bass, is all.

Once this is sorted it's time for a new bank. Out of curiosity what pathetic excuse for a bank pulled this sh**?
Since I already have two ported 2x15 cabs that rock, I'm considering building a sealed enclosure to go under the big Dunwich tube head that's in progress. Don't care about weight, I purposely want it to be as big as possible as it's really just a stand for a huge head. Since the head will go to 2 ohm I can still run a Dually or an 810 beside whatever I build anyway. I'm thinking of doing something similar to what Adam (demon666) built for himself, a sealed 4x15. It's pretty hard to find any kind of information on what might be the ideal internal volume for a sealed enclosure with multiple drivers. I might just have to make a stab in the dark, based on some common existing dimensions and what dimensions I need and see how it sounds.
Ruins would make a great name for a doom band. I guess lots of people already thought of that, though.
Yeah, I've seen Black Cobra, too. Everyone else loves them, but for me, they're the ones who most noticeably sound like they're missing something. I can't get into them at all, because their riffs are, for me, the kind where some thick bass would make it perfect. They don't have that, so it's very notably not. For me. Just my subjective opinion, as always. I'm not trying to talk trash about bands, it's just it's a big obstacle to get past, in listening to them, that most of the time I don't overcome.
I guess it kinda depends on the format of the 4x15. Which style you're going for.
Because there's the Electricamp 4x15 like Al Cisneros used to use, which is huge, with the drivers kinda in a diagonal formation, then there's also the Sunn 4x15 with the angled baffles (though with kinda low internal volume, which is probably why it was ported), and then there's also the Hiwatt 4x15 and the Marshall Lemmy style 4x15, which are, I think, just upscaled versions of their bass 4x12 cabs, drivers arranged in a square. Trace Elliot made a 4x15, too, and it was this shape, but ported.
You could also just find a good sealed 2x15 design and just double everything. Maybe even do two chambers (or four, if the 2x15 had each driver in a separate chamber).
We found the same thing. Had some personal issues with the 2nd guitarist, so we parted ways. I dig us a lot more as a 4 piece. Especially, when travelling.
- I'm ashamed to admit it, but BOA. I hate that I deal with them, but I have some crazy CC deal and it's super convenient. I also keep my Business and Personal stuff in separate banks, so all the really important funds are with the local bank. I mainly use BOA so I can stash rent somewhere so I can't spend it & so I can conveniently turn deposits into CC payments.

I was thinking the Electric style. Staggered 2x15 enclosures, stacked vertically with an internal division between the top and the bottom. The design ideas I put together on my own matched pretty closely to the existing dimensions of similar cabs I've researched, so I figured it must be in the ballpark. The main priorities are being wide enough to have a 28" wide head sit on top and being loud. I know it's not going to go super deep if it's sealed, but that's fine since I'm probably going to be playing with a lot of gain through it anyway. So I figured I'd shoot for something punchy, akin to a sealed 810 type sound. If I want some more subs, I can always just plug in one of the Duallies next to it no problem, as it'll come out 4 ohm with the Eminence Legend CA154 drivers. I've always seen EA's site say they use the Kappa driver, but Eminence says they're recommended for vented enclosures only. Although I don't think I've ever seen ports on those 4x15 cabs, but it's hard to tell in the few pics there are online.
My vote is for a vertical 4x15 cabinet
