Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Okay men, this may be of interest to some here...hopefully. I've been poring through the record collections of friends, YouTube, reviews, general research, etc....why? Trying to compile what (IMO) are a couple discs' worth of some of the heaviest music of the early 70s I could find.

I tried to stick to the early 70s. All these songs were recorded between 1970-1973 with the exception of two. One it is unsure whether it was recorded in '69 or '70, and one track comes from 1974.

I also tried to keep to (mostly) more obscure bands. There's no Sabbath, no BOC, no Pentagram. There is a Hawkwind track...serious fans of the genre/era will likely be familiar with a couple of other bands (Bloodrock, Dust...), but overall I feel most of these bands would take some deep digging. Maybe I'm wrong. In a lot of cases I listened to all the entire albums I could find by these bands to cull the heaviest number.

Anyways, YT vids aren't available for some of these tracks, and I didn't want to link 22 files onto this post, so I am just going to post the tracklists. Maybe this is useless, but it should be possible for anyone curious enough to scare up the majority of these cuts on YouTube or maybe find them as mp3s to download or on Spotify or something. I really tried to find the heaviest I could. Because of the time they were recorded, some of these songs are more like heavy boogie cowbell bellbottom mustache rawk, but I think it's all good.

I'm making a double-disc compilation of them to CD-R just for grins. If anybody here hasn't heard this stuff, I think a lot of you may enjoy the sonic archaeology involved in trying to get yer ears around it.

Some is surprisingly heavy for the times...

Probably should have added a track or two by Blue Cheer or Randy Holden, but here's what I got:

DISC ONE:
1. ZIOR- Entrance Of The Devil
2. HAWKWIND- Lord Of Light
3. IRON CLAW- Skullcrusher
4. GRANICUS- Bad Talk
5. BANG- Idealist/Realist
6. TOAD- Stay
7. TRACTOR- All Ends Up
8. JOSEFUS- I Need A Woman
9. SIR LORD BALTIMORE- Woman Tamer
10. STONE AXE- Snakebite
11. JPT SCARE BAND- King Rat

DISC TWO:
1. CACTUS- Rumblin' Man
2. BUFFALO- Shylock
3. FRESH BLUEBERRY PANCAKE- Clown On A Rope
4. FLIED EGG- Rolling Down The Broadway
5. BLOODROCK- Melvin Laid An Egg
6. PINNACLE- Bad Omen
7. BEDEMON- Child Of Darkness
8. NIGHT SUN- Blind
9. DUST- Suicide
10. GOD- Coloured Balls
11. ASTAROTH- Satanispiritus

PS-- If anyone has any suggestions for additions for a possible third disc, I'm all ears!

Cool stuff! I went through 70's proto doom phase a few years back. I know almost every band you got there, lots of gems.
Here's a few from me:

I've got lots more, but I don't want to flood you guys with youtube links.

back in the stonerrock.com days someone put up a 7 disc set of heavy music from the 70s, ingeniously titled "Heavy 70s".

I still have it and can share if people are interested.

Cool! I have heard Icecross and I have the High Tides album...would have made a good inclusion. I must expand!

I shoulda known most of you would know this material.

I am gonna see if maybe I can at least find the tracklist to the 7 disc set from stonerrock...might be floating around out there somewhere.

I also have a couple of discs of some of the wildest, fuzziest 60s garage rock I put together a couple years ago.

My gas list is ridiculous

-P bass (#4)
-Amps (don't even know what but maybe a old peavey and probably my old b15s)
-Brimstone audio xd-2

Also have tons of stuff I want to sell but don't feel like using the big sights yet. I put my jazz up a few weeks ago and only has a few bites. Asking price was a bit high but everyone always beats ya up anyway.
