Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Do eeet man!!!! Dats what Im doin now, phase wizard is boosting the Mace pushing dem tubez and I run big fuzz through everything else.

But im sad to report Ric copy is dying in my hands, its on its last last leg. Just doesnt sound good anymore, its falling apart and the truss rod is already maxed. To me its not worth fixing, its an old cheap plywood copy, plus its pushing 40 years old.

Im am restoring that Soviet/japanese no name bass but if that doesnt work out dont know what im gonna do besides drop the coin and buy a real ric.

If the necks shot and it's hopeless/worthless to ship. color me interested in all the guts and possible hardware

Good or bad, that's a pretty bold statement about yourself.

Sup Guys,

Here's some progress pics of the 215 Faital 15PR400 cab so far. Really happy with how it's turning out. Sure isn't a lightweight, that's for sure, but definitely a looker! Grill is on it's way from Reliable Hardware. Still deciding what to do with the baffle finish wise. The dark/light contrast is pretty neat, but flat black might be neat too. idk, thoughts? I only got it playable last night, so was only able to test with my tiny 5w SE practice amp. I'm liking what I hear so far, but the true test will be tonight with the "big rig" at full tilt. I am stoked!

Tuning is at 45.5Hz currently. -3db point is at about 31Hz, so this puppy should go pretty low. 1000watts @ 130db even, it shouldn't go past xmax either, which is pretty rocking. Can't wait to get the new 450+W tube amp done to match! Going to be fuxing great I think! I have to go to my other thread now, and rub it in all the doubters faces. Muahahah! Ignore the lazy ass cat!

Is your baffle not permanently fixed? or are those mounting options for your grill?

I really like Weedeater, they're one of my all time favorite bands and one of the best live shows I've seen, but the new album is pretty lukewarm. It just doens't grab me at all, missing some kind of kick that they usually have. I don't know why.

Awesome man, looks great! I'd go with the flat black if it's behind a grill. Clear coated natural does look pretty neat with it, if it had those circular grills or something. Did you base this of JohnK's build specs?

As is, the baffle isn't glued yet. BUT, it does have very large 1.5" thick by 6" long triangular Baltic ply cleats on each corner, and 4x 1.5"x 8" cleats along the sides that back the baffle and are bolted with T nuts and torqued down well. There's also the inner 1/2" lip of the inner ply shell that the baffle's back side rests against. WAAAAY overkill, yes. So, those bolts you see are torqing the baffle to the box. Will likely glue it in with PL Premium once all my guts-work is done. Also need to add a front-back brace.

I think I'm going to pshop a few looks and see what I like. Natural might be a bit too bright in the end. We shall see! I used his build as inspiration, but the the actual build is significantly different. More internal volume, 1/2"walnut(outer) +1/2" baltic(inner) construction, large baffle cleats, and different sized ports too, I think. Less bracing due to heavy duty construction. Overall dimensions are around 40" tall, 24" wide and 18" deep.

Go to my parents place the end of the month to introduce leela and go to my cousins Eagle Scout court of honor. Gonna bring my silvertone amp and organ too for looking over as well as the pignose.

The silvertone has a lot of room inside, like excessive. I was thinking, what if I cut the baffle for another speaker. Then I could keep the internal amp attached to one, but also use it as a cab for the pignose? Could I operate both at once without phase issue? Like wooden divide in the box?
