After my synth questing I started & finished with my big box EHX BMS as my no. 1. It's not the best for gigging IMO (power supply, box size, faders), so I'm going to use a Behringer bass synth for live; that one beat out the Digitech & Boss for me.

After my synth questing I started & finished with my big box EHX BMS as my no. 1. It's not the best for gigging IMO (power supply, box size, faders), so I'm going to use a Behringer bass synth for live; that one beat out the Digitech & Boss for me.
Nice. I used to have a huge collection of EHX stuff, a lot of it vintage. I had a killer ring mod by them and I've owned like three of the Micro Synths.
Yeah I have a wiring harness and SD QP pup for the Lotus. I am going to start there (once I get another soldering iron) and shop for amps.
I do want to get the SX P bass up and running too. Probably find another cheap wiring harness/jack and replacement pup (the electronics are shot to hell in the SX.) Both basses need a little setup work and messing with the nuts, but should be in good shape once I knock it out.
Hard to pass up an Epi Ripper with a case, but it would probably just end up being pawned anyway. That's one nice thing about owning an old Lotus...I couldn't get enough for it to make it worth pawning yet it's still a damn decent instrument.
I will likely be on here next month seeking ampage advice. At this point I can't be too picky as far as tube vs. SS, combo vs. head and cab, etc. Just want/need something that will stand up to a powerhouse drummer in a practice situation and be giggable in ~500 person venues. I played a 500W Fender Rumble a while back and was impressed. I was quite surprised. I know a combo isn't ideal. Maybe I'll luck out and when the stars align and I have the scratch I can locate a decent used head and a Peavey cab or something...
Anything bass-related tends to stay on my local (OKC/Tulsa) CL forever, and very rarely do you see someone come down on price. There's a nice natural/maple T-40 on there that has been there since at least September of last year. $600. The seller keeps posting it every day or two, but has never dropped the asking price. Sometimes with some people I can't tell if they are simply oblivious or just a-holes.
Yeah, not feeling the new weedeater. I think it's a combination of the new drummer, weird production and so so song writing. A solid meh.
Peavey mark something + 215 would be cheap and loud. I'd avoid combos all together.
I think the newer, small box BMS uses standard 9V "Boss style" power. My old big box one has a specific power supply that I have to run to a power strip. The OG BMS has a hard-wired power cable. It's also too easy (for me, at least) to bump faders and send the settings out of whack. With some new MDT stuff I'll be using the EHX for recording only and get an approximate sound for live out of the Behringer.
In other "noise maker" pedal news, I traded the Barbershop for an Arpanoid; can't wait to try that one out.
Totally with you. A lot of cheapies I tried out or played back in the 70s and 80s were really nothing but pieces of dung, but inexpensive options are now generally really good and reliable and playable. I have no shame whatsoever about what is on the headstock of my instruments and I'm in the school of thought that, while upgrading basses is nice and can be beneficial, the best way to sound better is to upgrade amps.
I want to make loud sounds so bad. So bad, you guys.

I like my behringer synth, but I need an expression pedal for it.
My feedback looper is shaged again. The bypass works, but in the loop doesn't. Plus, switch for anarchy, is loose. I tried to flick switch and it spun freely. Condensed board to three pedals for upcoming show. I might find a piece of scrap wood and make a temp pedal board. Just trying to keep load out as easy as possible with this feat coming up. All the cabs are provided ( I get a 2x15) and all we need are amps, instruments, and effects. Also means no double rigs. Oh well. We went through last practice with the same type of setup we will have. Adjusted levels and all that jazz. We are good to go. Need to write two more songs and then we have enough for another recording. We almost have $1600 saved for vinyl. So close I can taste it...
