This is one of the things that makes greenboy's builders prices pretty good. They partner with each other and Leland at speakerhardware and have bigger buying power. They couldnt make a dime if they were buying drivers per build.
Yeah, as soon as I tell any musician I know I'm building a cab, they want me to build them something. I try to explain to them that I'm only going to build if it's something I can't really buy. I guess I could buy an Electric Amp 4x15, but they cost more than the materials and have an insane lead time, so it makes sense. Building someone else a 2x12 or 4x12 or 2x15 though, not really that practical. My buddy wants me to build him an oversized 2x12 for guitar and the price of the materials is just barely under what an Avatar costs shipped.
Eminence has a Universal Pricing Policy - hence the same prices everywhere you look, even if you picked up the phone and spoke to someone at a dealer they can't work with you on price. They're not supposed to anyway.
So, ya know, ive realized I really dont dig my ampeg 810. Its weird. I totally forgot this from years ago, I always love the sound when I see a band play em live, but ive always been underwhelmed when I use one.. dont get it.
Yeah, that's why I haven't pulled the trigger on them yet. It's a supply place closing out a limited quantity, not a store front. They seem legit, after a bit of research. A few negative feedbacks in the last 6 months, but most of them seem left by illiterate morons with unreasonable expectations.
My 810 isn't my favorite cab. I keep it around though because it works, it's loud and the resale value is through the floor at this point. Mine is in great condition, but the used market is so flooded with nearly destroyed Ampeg 810 cabs with no tolex and half the drivers blown for $200 that no one recognizing how much the ones in good condition are realistically worth.

but seriously, they always sound like theres a hole in the EQ spectrum to me compared to other cabs and they have a RIDICULOUS amount of low end that I find myself EQing out.
Every amp just has too much bass (i cant believe I wrote those words) thru an ampeg cab to me.

Recently picked up a Rat Tail again and loving it but can't decide between Bluebeard > Rat or Rat > Bluebeard.
Anyone running either of these? Thoughts?

If I had a Bluebeard, I'd make a bunch of demo clips for comparison. Alas, I do not have one. DESPAIR.
Hey, gots a conundrum. I have the Peavey Combo 300 that's in my buddy's basement for our jam band. Thing is beastly heavy, and I do not desire to lug it around.
I'm talking with the guys in my previous post, and guitar player is using a 22 watt Mesa combo, so I'm thnking the drummer is playing pretty quiet. Soooo, do I go with a cheap-o powered PA cab I saw on CL for a Benjamin and run my bass through my SABDDI into that, or do I plunk out more dough for an actual amp? Remember, wifely constraints abound.

I got one off a dude locally second hand (he might be on here), I had never seen one in the UK before, never mind for sale in my town! Had to grab it.
Ever use an SWR with a fridge? The aural enhancer knob is basically a lo-mid scoop right about where an 810 has a huge bump. Course in other cabinets it sucks the balls right out of your tone.
I actually ended up with the 8ohm legends using WinISD too, but I had to use it "backwards". I had the cab, and wanted to find the best drivers for it. Plugged in tons of different drivers before settling on the legends. By extending the port length on my cab 3" I got it "just right".
