Lucky man. I think a Kava Bar would be perfect for my neck of the woods. Since I am in coastal Virginia they could play up the tropical theme and all the rich hippy/yoga ladies and their hubby's would love to hang there and chill out after a day of boating.

It tastes like dirt to be honest, like dry dirt fell into water and got stirred up then settled to the bottom. It's root that is dried and chopped up fine. So just earthy muck but not terrible. You can put it in other stuff too as long as that stuff isn't hot or it will destroy the active ingredient. A normal serving is like five ounces so it was easy to pop it down and then have a sip of a better beverage. If you can drink black coffee then you can do it, not as nasty as like cough medicine or something like that. The weird part it numbs your tongue and lips a little while because it is a natural topical anesthetic but that goes away fast. Dang all I want to do is go home and have some more!!!

bought a venus fly trap today for $6 at osh, not sure if it was an impulse buy or not, still hungover even though i've been up since 8:05 am, gonna make the no diode setting on the rat tail work with the LB100 today, cause i spent a ton of money on resin, silicone, and graphite earlier for some sculptures and the pedal fund is empty since nobody has bought any of my consignment stuff in highland park

But really, even in doom or any other genre, guitars aren't "required." There have been a few bass/drum duos. A two-bass and drums lineup would be pretty cool. Or bass-keys/synth-drums. There are all kinds of guitar-less options, and I'd like to see more of this kind of thing.

Many years ago I was messing around with a couple of friends and we recorded a few tracks just for sh!ts'n'grins of bass, drums and a trumpet which was mic'ed and the mic was run through some pedals. It sounded fargin' m-a-s-s-i-v-e. We thought it sounded so great we intended to pursue it as a project, but we were all already in more than one band and had commitments and it never got off the ground.



Thanks for this info/rundown of your experience. I haven't sought any kava out, but I am going to try to track some down. need to try this.

You should check out Woozy. Longtime poster Demon666's band with two bass players. You'd dig them.

I take it your band situation hasn't changed much, Corey?
I'm jamming with some dudes again. It's kind of weird and heavy, but it's slow going. Guitar player isn't really into playing anything "easy". So I may get a riff in here or there. Another bass player is playing drums. I'm waiting for him to push me out. Haha. "If you don't want me around, just tell me." Haha

If you want gigs... Come to Austin.

This area has never been great for music. When I was younger I played in punk bands and it was always DIY shows. I used to throw shows and at that time the nearest venue was about a half hour drive out of town and it was so expensive to book you always lost money no matter how packed it was. I used to throw free house shows in our old place, when we lived in a farm house in the middle of nowhere. After the last band of that style I was in ended, it was pretty much nothing but metalcore here and I had zero interest in going to shows anymore. I go to shows in Santa Cruz or the SF bay area sometimes.

Hasn't changed a tick. I haven't been trying as hard as I was last year. Before the baby got here I was actively writing and trying to recruit people, renting rehearsal studios for auditions, drummers just kept committing and then flaking over and over. So since the kid was born I've been networking with people I know and keeping an eye out for ads out of town, but nothing has come together. Everyone I know who might be interested either started their own band without me already or has some personal hangup why they don't want to play music right now.

That's why I miss my old guitarist. He kept it simple. Also simplified the other guitarists riffs. Once his youngest gets a little older, I'll drag his sorry @ss out again.

Well that sucks... But at least your not putting forth an extreme amount of effort for zero payoff like before. So I guess that's good.

I'm trying not to sweat it and just push myself to write more music by myself for a while. The guitarist from the last doom metal band keeps saying he wants to start something, but he's just never doing it because he's hung up on that last band not working out. He has a drummer who has a space and wants to jam, but I don't know the guy so I can't really go around him. Besides the fact that I don't know any other guitarists into the style that aren't already in bands.
